Alternative tank manufacturers?

Hey folks, been a passive reader of this site for a while now, and the amount of questions that this site has solved has been a real
help

I want to start a new project, something different than just a HL or Tamiya ect; but have found it difficult to find reasonably priced alternatives. I was considering the professional edition torro KT, but I didn't like the idea of getting rid of the zimmerit on the hull, and I want something that will take time, to build, model and personalise on a specific tank.

I have recently come across field of armour in the states, which from the outside seem great value for a 1/6th! Has anyone bought one of these tanks, and what is your verdict? The other website I have come across is Ludwig, but the price for the tracks alone are a bit steep!

Anyway, my question is, is there any other independent tank makers out there other than these two? Reasonably priced, big scale tanks? It has taken me quite a while to come across these two sites but I'm sure they'll be someone else there? And finally, anyone out there make a big Maus r/c? I know of Juckenberg but I think it'll be beyond my skill level to get the resin to work, and it seems Hooben are no longer pursuing it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Grey...field of armor... never heard of them... is that a model company... you have a website url? I've heard of Ludwig from a friend .. Yeah I agree it's a little on the high side... as far as price go... but they have some unusual things..... I also know someone with a MAUS... he hasn't built it yet because at the moment it isn't practical.... the kit is resin... and unfortunately so are the tracks..it's definitely a tank some big manufacturer needs to take into consideration ... just because of the special "needs" it has

there a lot of Odd ball tanks out there... It's just in general it's better to start from scratch or kitbash something to get the result

there are some manufacturers of tanks and am also a self , but the price level is always the same , because it is simply not possible or convenient to provide the required quality . It is this often overlooked alone what the material costs needed to build such a tank as desired , and then another variety often comes to working hours . If it is to be beneficial , there are only the products of mass manufacturers like HL to produce the thousands of your tanks and can offer an appropriate price . But if you have something like a mouse would like for it simply is nothing you need to accept a Moderate Buy andres price level , or take a chance on it yourself .

I'll give you a small example .
I just build a Panzer III chain in 1/6 and the material alone for a single chain pair costs to have pitched $ 500 okay without a single penny. The many hours of work are not counted .
Even with smaller chains and parts that is so, only the material content is low , but not the long hours and the second thing is that you should consider is the quality. What do you expect from something that is cheaper than the standard? You will get only slightly lower quality . That you should be aware of in your considerations.

I know of suppliers offering cheap things , but I recommend no more because the discomfort and disappointment will always fall back on me , because these tanks are just too cheap and no claim to original fidelity and quality can be expected....

I understand what your saying Edwin, looks like I'm going to have to save a little then! It's a shame Hooben never went through with the Maus, ever since visiting Kubinka I've been looking tirelessly for a 1/16th And thanks Alpha, I think the Maus kit is by Juckenberg, It would be a great build but I think a little beyond my expertise with all that resin!

Hi Grey,

a mouse in 1/16 is a challenge and is almost as big and heavy as a normal tank in 1/10.

This should not be underestimated.
I have the gear and the chain tensioner built for someone of his mouse in 1/16, since he himself could not take it anymore. Therefore, I know what that means.
Unfortunately, I can show you a link to his building report, because you can only access this forum as a member.

But there is a video of a test drive, though still with disk problems.
