Has Anyone Scratch Built working Suspension

Hello

I have a 1/18 tracked vehicle that I would like to make into a R.C version. It currently has fixed track rollers with no suspension. I would like to make active working suspension for it but I don`t know how to start.

Has anyone ever scratch built working suspension for their tracked vehicles?

what is it then for a vehicle?

There are several ways to install a suspension. This is always dependent on one's own ways in which the suspension is supposed to work and how much space you have available for it.

Thank you for your reply. I have a 1/18 Bradley Vehicle, it has rolling wheels and tracks but No suspension. I believe it is a 21st. century toy but the detail is very nice and I would like to make it full r.c with working suspension.
I have a dremel and know how to use it. Any tips / pictures of how to make a working suspension would be great!

Hello Again

I just took pictures of my project and I hope they come up here. While I am here, the tracks are of a realatively thick rubber and ALL the wheels turns. I could also use some advice for the motor transmission for this.

I don`t know if this is allowed, if not, please delete and let me know. First, I have No idea of how to do what lister posted above.
Second, I was able to post ALL three pictures in another site; R.C Universe.com in the tank section, look for my same post title, you will see the three pictures clearly.

Good news and bad news on your project.... IMO ... it may not be worth the effort.. as I have seen 1/ 18 scale Bradleys on EBAY rtr RC for about 120 US with shipping...Your hull looks like it has lots of room...but all your wheels .the sprockets and idlers may not be adaptable to RC drive systems. also you have to destroy all your suspension arms because they are molded to the hull.... so replacing those will become an issue

Now with that said... it isn't impossible... you could adapt a 1/24 drive system into that BRADLEY...the suspension arms would probably be the same length from the vehicle you purchase...the scaled down sprockets and idlers would probably be suitable as well...as 1/16 drive systems would be too large to fit your tank

I think the HENG LONG LEOPARD or M1 ABRAMS would work...The reason I recommend HENG LONG... is because of the "user friendliness" and the upgradability ...not to mention they are relatively inexpensive ...just make sure you count the teeth on the sprockets before you purchase either...your suspension for the road wheels will have to be done carefully... I would drill out the centers of the molded on ones....you would then have to acquire some brass or aluminum tubing from a hobby or hardware store...
After you drill the holes... (small at first... just to mark the centers)sand everything off till all you see are the holes you drilled...now the tricky part... you have to oversize the hole you drilled that marked the centers of the molded suspension arms so the larger of the two size tube will fit ...it's tricky because you have to make sure your alignment is really good...after that it gets a little easier....once you've done that... you cut those tubes into three equal lengths... removing the centers...slide your second smaller tubing in mark the clearances... plug one end with plastic sprew... screw the suspension arms taken from whatever model you are scavenging from...and screw it into the modified tube ...the suspension arms have "stoppers" or "limiters" at this time you will want to take a pen or marker ... and mark the "travel"...machine those out with a dremel....test...make sure the arms move freely...now the next tricky part... you have to decide... you can either drill a hole in the top of the tube that rides inside the larger tube... bend spring steel until you have a torsion type of spring... or you can solder tabs on the inner tubing.. and install some pen springs

It's a lot of work... and very time consuming... but if you feel it's worth the effort
