Miniature and military pervert signing in. :D

Post by Reniki »

Hello to everybody!

I've always been interested in WW2 era warfare escpecially AXIS countries weaponry and vehicles. I also like small things like ants. ( I have huge formicarium with carpenter ants :D) I'm seeing this hobby very interesting since it combines the both worlds. But to be honest i'm total newbie here. I have plan to buy Tiger I (surprise!) as my first RC tank and learn its mechanics and later get stardard STUG III and modify it to Finnish version with field modifications. My first question comes here. Which version of Tiger should I get? I've been looking at heng long and its not very good if im right. So i guess im getting Torro tiger. But theres so many versions on their site (http://www.torro-shop.de) and I don't know which one is the best one for me. These two models are under my magnifier:*

http://www.torro-shop.de/en/rc-tank/rc- ... x-bb?c=138

and

http://www.torro-shop.de/en/rc-tank/rc- ... case?c=138

Whats the main differences since there's pretty big leap in price. Should I get the expensive model or is it waste of money? :)

RENIKI, Hi, Welcome to the forum, It would help if we knew which country you were talking to us from, there are members from Australia, Japan, Indonesia The United States and Canada as well as just about every European country as well ( my apologies to any country I have missed)The Heng Long of today is much better than the earlier ones, both in detail and quality. as to the Torro I have the expensive one and it is a fine vehicle but to get it right there is still work for you to do, for instance the tools are all molded on, the tow ropes are plastic as is the upper body although the hatches and most upper parts are metal, the good things are the quick release under the left rear mudflap to seperate the top from the bottom and the way the battery is charged, think of a phone charger, between the exhaust stacks is the starter flange and that is where the charge socket is, neat. your choice, enjoy choosing it is part of the joy of this hobby. shaun

Welcome Renki....

I agree with everything jarndice said....the NEW HENG LONGs are not the HENG LONGS of the past... for the money you cannot beat the value.... the bodies are very durable...and the electricals more than sufficient
The models you are looking at are the high end torros..... get the metal bodied one if you are going to spend the money...that's the major difference and what makes one more expensive than the other...just remember metal bodies are harder to repair and modify

Also ... what jarndice said about country is true... as in most cases ... Heng longs are a good deal in the states... where other brands are more economically feasible elsewhere...so knowing where you are from helps us help you in your adventure into RC tankery :D

I don't think you will find a better bunch of guys than the ones here ...I'm new ... and have found it both educational ..and inspiring    :haha:

ENJOY YOUR ADVENTURE

Hi reniki & welcome to the forum.
Always a conundrum, which tank to buy :D
Your choices are both on the expensive side of the line.
Do you like to play?, model? Or maybe a bit of both?
You could buy a couple of bottom of the range henglong tiger 1's
& have enough change to
Play with one of them & gut the other 1 & upgrade it.
Or you could get a tamiya kit & build that.
I don't have any torro tanks but I really like the taigen ones ( they look pretty similar to me )
& should be awesome straight out of the box.
The choice is of cause yours :)
Cheers

Hi Reniki
Welcome to the forum.
As for your question I will leave that to others more knowledgeable about the various manufacturers. :S

Welcome! Ditto what all the other guys said. Depends whether you like to do a lots of modifying yourself or you want RTR out of the box. As far as I am concerned for a first vehicle you can't go wrong with the Torro's BUT easier on the wallet and performance think about an HL with metal upgrades (tracks, sprockets and idlers), Clark board (comes with better emitter too), better speaker, servo recoil and walterson gearboxes. Here in Canada this would all cost approx. $400 and that would include shipping and taxes. You can sell the spare parts you remove RX18, HL speaker, pot metal gearboxes and this would get you at least $50.00 back... :D

Thanks for your kind reception folks. :) I'll try to use forum search funktion as much as I can so I wont spam forum with newbie topics. :D And I'm from Finland since you asked it! :) My plan is to first get one vehicle which is perfect/almost perfect from out of the box and after learning how it works etc Im going to start modding/painting/upgrading tanks myself as I gain experience from you veterans! :)

RENIKI, You ask all the questions you like, cos we love showing off how much we know, I would suggest you scroll down the different pages and you will find the answer to most things you want to know. If you are going to upgrade then the VENDORS site is the place to go, you might want to look first at the BLACKLIST, there are some well known names here, avoid them they will hurt your bank balance. the RECOMMENDED dealers are the people to buy from, if you give a good look you will find dealers from all over the world and they will post the product where ever you live at a fair price. Take care. shaun
