Green horn

Post by ALPHA »

Hello everyone... I'm new to the hobby of rc tankery ... And very green behind the ears... I had chance to browse around and have seen so many impressive modelling being done.... Right now i don't think i'm at the stage everyone else here is ...but share your enthusiasm for the hobby... I really enjoy my tanks... And have acquired a collection of 12 different models... All heng long... As i like the value and quality

my smoothest runner and probably my all time favorite so far is the m4 sherman

my beserko blitzkrieg favorite is my tiger i...it's a basic model.. One of my first... But will just blast through and over many obstacles that daunt some of my higher end tanks

i thank matthew for allowing me entrance to this opportunity of learning :d

also phil... For if it wasn't for his picture of his t34/85 coming up in a search i was doing... I would have never come across this site

Hello tankmad... First off thanks for the welcome... To be honest... I never thought i'd find a place like this ...so never took any pictures of my tanks ... Perhaps i should have ... Since some needed extensive restoration ...

One example was my panther.... I had it on a shelf... About six feet high... And was working on my panzer 3...these are the lower end heng longs that have the abc channel selector ....i got them from a graveyard box at a local hobby shop... And my first two tanks.... Anyway.. I was in the process of testing the functions of the panzer... When all of a sudden the panther pounced from the shelf ..missing my head by a few inches... Crashing down on the panzer....the upper hull of the panther suffered quarter panel damage... And the panzer had a hatch break off.... Apparently i had left the power on on the panther.... ... :haha:

with no concern for myself ... I swore out loud... And exclaimed "my tanks!!!"...i thought i had lost them... But once i calmed down... I cut the quarter panel damage off... As i couldn't locate all the pieces...measured and cut a new panel from a spare panther shell (the engine vents were missing) ... Backed it with a little sheet plastic ...repainted the panel and viola!! She was as good as new....trying to keep them relatively stock looking i fabricated another hinge loop from some of the splintered shards to secure the hatch on the panzer

i do wish i had taken photos ... For the repairs came out surprisingly good... And you can't tell if you didn't know what happened....i know it would have been old .. Easy things for you all to do... But it was really satisfying knowing the tanks were solid enough to take that abuse and with a little tlc be brought back to running form :d

Hello red devils ... Thanks for the greeting... I think i will have to invest in a new camera to post pictures...but i will try when i do

i'm not sure you all will appreciate the way i am modelling my tanks though... It's a little unconventional

what inspired me to get into the hobby was a japanese anime... Titled girls und panzer... It's a pretty good story if you know what to look for...the tank battles are great...done with cg graphics... With high detail

so the tanks i have are modeled after the different schools participating in the anime... I found it fortunate that heng long produces most of them...the type 10 main battle tank being the exception and reason i had to get that t34 that phil is showing.(didn't like the wsn too much)

but if you all still want to see them... When i do get a decent camera (i have a fuji ... But it sucks) i'll be more than happy to showcase them for you all :d

Mahalo tiger tiger.... Yes... More than i thought i would have this early in the venture of rc tankery lol...i have to agree with the rewards... I find the hobby much more relaxing than flying helicopters ..planes..running boats ..cars...and the such

how a tank will turn on a dime..stop on one.. And still ram and traverse over obstacles is fun to say the least

not to mention the function of the rtr models.. They're great

thanks again for the welcome tiger tiger.. And everyone

hopefully i will have some pictures for you all...so long you don't mind the eclectic nature of them ;)

Sorry guys.. no images of my tanks yet... but these are images of the ones I've already modeled

two that are still in the workshop

The stug ... I am not doing in this paint scheme... I'm doing it in another scheme that appeared later in the anime... so it will be hippo grey with alternative markings... this version just had too many to make a credible copy ... However ... I did do that paint scheme on a smaller 1/24 scale Heng Long Leopard ...yes... banners and all :haha:

Image

The T34 will need a commander's hatch change ... as the heng long is a split hatch not the half moon...and ground clearance adjustment... which thanks to Phil... will be solved easily

there are a couple outstanding.. but are on my wish list
unfortunately the KV-2 is a little out of my budget
and the KING TIGER... which I am hesitant to purchase as it will make my collection of the KUROMORIMIHO school larger than the rest (though they were the best equipt and most formidable of schools in the anime ... heck they even had a MAUS 8O )

I know it might seem a little blasphemous ... but it has added a little more fun to the hobby ;)
