Tamiya Gepard (56003)

Post by JBdk »

Hi...

Here is a couple of pics of my restored Gepard...it is a so called attic find, where it has been hidding for the past 30 years...I bought it for something like £30 and my plan was at first to sell it in parts but almost everything was there it only needed to be glued back on...the battery had been left in the chassis and due to that it had made some corosion so I had to take the chassis apart and give it a good clean up and a fresh layer of paint...
All in all it ended up being my cheapest Tank I spent £30 on the tank and another £35 for parts and paint... 8)

As it was when I got it, the canons are fixed with double adhesive tape.. ;)

Finished...the decals are the originals, they where nicely packed in a box together with the manual. :)

Good Afternoon,
Great find there. I had one of these about 25 years ago but never got around to making it full on RC. Did you or are you going to set it up for radio control vs remote control? Beautiful piece of the past there.
regards,

Hi...

It was set up with radio control when I got it...I have kept the old Acoms servos in it and only changed the speed controller to an electronic speed controller due to the safety...it would not be good if the old mecanical speed controller locked up and sent the tank full speed ahead to a brickwall.. ;)

Good Afternoon,
*chuckles* No, that would not be good. As I recall, it was a fairly speedy thing for back then.

Hi I also have a gepard that I aquired in the mid 70's as a scrap tank to use in a Landing craft I was building, the lower hull and running gear are in great condition but some of the upper hull and especially the radar unit are in very poor condition I'm hoping to fully restore it one day, but is there any replacement parts still out there or have I got to scratch build any replacement bits I need having seen your model it made me get mine out of the loft again.

Hi Denzil...

You can get alot of parts for it on eBay...just search for 1:16 Tamiya Gepard...you can also go the whole way and buy Tamiya kit 36208 it is the reprint of the RC Gepard from the seventies but without the RC gear such as the transmission ect... :-)

Thank you for that information its the main radar unit on the rear of the turrent, thats a wreck and the front detail on the foredeck ie. lights, mirrors and the towing stantions. I hoping to restore the vehicle to the same condition as the test vehicle that I fired at Oerlikon range at Ostenboden just outside Zurich in the early 80's.
