Hi people.
My uncle has a Tiger 1 I think it is and we just been out to use it and when he turns the tracks keep coming off the rear wheels. Any idea what we can so?

It could be a number of things. But generally using your tank on grass causes a lot of resistance between the tracks and results in pulling them off.
On my first Tiger which use to pull the tracks off I found the rear idle wheel to be too loose, and due to the HL design isn’t really possible to remove the slop around. I ended up removing the plastic idle wheels fitting metal ones which have a 4mm axle (HL plastic is 5mm) and used a 4mm bolt as the axle and through the chassis to give it rigid support. After two years or use all is still well.
Also slack tracks don’t help either.

How you drive it makes a huge difference too. If you're not use to RC controls people tend to jab it all the way over to full lock when turning, rather than progressively move the stick over gently while moving forwards or backwards. Doing this with a HL transmitter will make the tank neutral turn, I think HL call it super spin! Tanks of WW2 era couldn't do that for a number of reasons, one of them being it'll pull the tracks off! On a smooth hard surface it's ok but try it on grass, sand or loose dirt dirt and you can loose a track, a wheel, snap a track link or break a sprocket tooth.

The Idler on my first plastic track & wheel Tiger was as Tankbear says a problem having too much slop. Also on my example we noticed that
the drive sprokets were not running straight more eleptical caused by out of line gearbox spindles . This ended up causing the tracks to come of
repeatedly . Some run great out the box , some HL long models mean you end up joining forums and then it all begins........!!

My Tiger 1 tracks keep coming off as well so I thought I'd tried to upgrade the idlers to metal ones like Tankbear recommended but now I don't know which part to order because they are different for early and late production tanks. How do I know if my tank is an early or late model?

It's almost certain to be an early one.
The big ugly airfilters at the back is one way of telling.
As far as I'm aware, the only difference in early & late idlers
Is the late ones are a little smaller.

hi aecon. if your heng long tiger is a straight out of the box one then it is bound to be an early. I notice you mention late and early sprockets in metal. so I take it you are looking at asiatam. these will not fit the heng long base without extensive work but mato do a set of metal tracks, idlers and sprockets for the heng long that fit straight on. if you look at your rear idler, is there a little hole in the centre of the hub cap? if so you can put a screwdriver inside and unscrew the idler and it will come off. depending on how much money you want to spend on upgrades, you can also buy an asiatam/taigen metal base . this would give you the option to make different variants, late and early but bear in mind please it will make your tank very heavy and turning on grass or soft ground will put a strain on the tank and the rx18 board. hope this helps. dave
