New kid in a sweet shop......

Post by doc watson »

Hi guys (and gals??)

Avid modeler for over 30 years and with a month off work wanted something to occupy the evenings so after looking at a 1/350 Nimitz and seeing some people taking over 4 years to detail it up and spending a few years completing the air wing I decided against that and have just bought....

1 x Heng Long Tiger 1
1 x Mato metal turret
1 x Asiatam metal hull (are they called Taigen now?)
1 x Heng long tank top deck
1 x set early Asiatam wheels (these have the BB's in them)

Plan is to upgrade as much as possible all aspects of the tank and the Heng Long tiger will be used to supply the electronics (plus I got the Tx batteries etc). I couldnt resist buying the complete model as my local shop had a 20% closing sale. I will save the all metal hull debate for another time. A bb gun with recoil will be included as well as upgraded sound (is it elmod who do these) and after numerous views of utube tigers I feel that the 'scale speed' of these tanks is way to fast so will be looking at either using a slower motor or moding the gearbox to make it run much slower. I might also look at using a PIC chip to control the tank as I am a computer/engineering/electronics lecturer at a local college (that explains the month off work then...)

I will start a build thread soon. Now back to reading that thread on making a super smoker......

See you on the forums.....

Hallo Andy, given that this hobby is a joint operation between me and my bank manager I can only assume college lecturing pays well? Anyway a warm welcome and as you are probably aware we have to suffer neer do wells even in our pastime, so please use dealers such as Dave (Forgebear) and avoid the blacklisted ones, A months holiday, if only, enjoy. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I spent about a week (a few hours each evening) researching the tanks, parts, builds etc on the internet and a few days ago and found this guy called forgebear who sold everything I need.......

Then joined this forum and who says hi first?...... small world....

From what I've seen on the tinternet I'm in good hands. Shaun, pay is ok but I always live just beyond my means, dont we all? Am posting a build log later with my full intentions.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys

Welcome Andy, enjoy your build as the ships do tend to take longer, with less fun at the end.
