TDanny's Tamiya Leopard 2a6 (Ex Matt's Leo)
TDanny's Tamiya Leopard 2a6 (Ex Matt's Leo)
Hi all!
Altough I'm not a local tanker, I've felt that this tank deserves a topic on this page too, because it came from here.
I've bought it from Mattdragon a few weeks ago and it came a long way to Hungary. It was love at first sight. I think this tank deserves a new life. Thanks to Matt, it arrived safe and sound. There vere some screws and parts missing, but it was easy to get them from AFV-Models with the upgrade idler tensioner and matal cable rods.
Here you can see the tank how it looked like when it arrived:
I started with breaking off the remaining parts wich were glued with CA glue I guess. Not a good solution. Then I started the build with the shock absorbers. I used two-component Araldite epoxy wich is strong as hell:
Later I masked the inner rods for painting.
I continued the building with the torsion bars where I used the upgraded metal torsion mounts:
Then I attached the upgraded suspension arms couse I decided to paint the complete lower hull togeather. These metal parts added some serious weight to the Leo :
And the upgraded idler tensioner wich is a must:
Finally I attached the rear parts and side running rollers and left it to dry:
Thx for watching...

Keep up. Good job.
I have just finished my one and it is really good tank.
I haven't upgraded suspension arms and idlers adjuster so far but will be once they are broken.
Strongly recommend you to upgrade to ball bearings which reduce lots of frication whilst running.
Regards,
Rock

So here we go again:
I've masked the lover hull and gave it a whole Tamiya Nato Green spray. It was just enough.
Then I had to dissasemble the wireing to get the speaker box. It was easier than I tought...
One question for the other Leo owners:
Is it a Tamiya mistake, that the manual shows to screw the speaker box togeather first? Because if you do, you can't screw the speaker box to the lower hull.
Then came the road wheels, the driwe wheel and tracks. I put some weight in the hull to set the correct track tension. Made it a littlebit more tight, so itt'll be perfect after some runs.
Last but not least attached the upper hull and made the wireing. Not perfect but it'll do it till the definitive painting.
To be continued...

That's looking good. I think I'm going to have to work on mine tonight
Re: TDanny's Tamiya Leopard 2a6 (Ex Matt's Leo)
Wiring in the turret is quite annoying. I used mini receiver to leave more space for the wires.
Keep up.

Yes, the wireing is not perfect yet. My turret is not fitting... Maybe my batterie's too big.
I'm trying to find the right wire combination.

THX rock!
Was a bit busy in the last few weeks...
I did some weathering on it as well, and can't decide to leave it green or add some camouflage...
The shape of the Leo is really lovely when its all green.
