Heng Long pro metal tracks Tiger1

Hello all im looking at getting my first rc tank and after lurking and studying the forums have decided on the heng long tiger 1.
Ive read that the pro version gearbox is meh and will need replaceing but the price seems worth it to get the metal tracks the question is

1. are the tracks accurate to what they should be
2. did the tiger have different tracks depending on the version it was (early/late) and if yes what version are there tracks for.
3. are they anygood or will the tank detrack all the time.

I know that I will have to upgrade the hull strength and suspension as the tracks add a lot of weight and stress to the tank

so it boils down to would I be better off buying the smoke and sound version and use the money saved towards a after market set of tracks or spend more and get the pro version

Spend the money up front and buy the pro version with the metal tracks, it is actually considerably cheaper in the long run.

Hi Spardin,

It depends what you have in mind - that is to say how far you intend to go in changing the HL Tiger.

The tracks are fine up to a point, but they represent the type used on the early models. Anything with a later type cupola will have the later pattern with ice cleats / chevrons. These will cost you about £50+ to replace from Taigen or closer to £100 from Impulse.

Another issue with the metal HL tracks is the fact that the guide horns are solid - they should actually be pierced on both the early and later pattern tracks.

Of course you do get metal sprockets and idlers with the metal tracked version - as well as the gears - but it sounds like you are already considering replacing the latter.

For my Tiger build I started with a basic plastic tracked model. Then I swapped the lower hull and electrics for an all-metal version. Then I went for a Taigen metal lower hull. Then I replaced the metal track gears with better Taigen ones (much slower). Then I up-graded the metal tracks to Taigen late-pattern ones. Then I swapped these for Impact. Then I replaced my road wheels with metal ones with separate rubber tyres...

The point I am trying to make is this: if you are going to up-grade the gears and you want the correct later tracks then you may want to buy the basic model and consider going for the Taigen hull instead, up-grade the gears and buy the metal wheels and tracks independently.

Of course I haven't even mentioned the upper hull changes. With hindsight I would have gone for the Taigen upper with recoil already installed to save myself a bit of hassle - but when I started my Tiger build that wasn't yet an option.

you will always get good advise from folk on the forum, but take a look at the cost of the up graded h/l as to buying seperate bit from a good vendor ,you can get metal taigan hull late metal wheels recoil taigan tops ete, it worth a try latest transmiters

For the work that you mention upgrading the hull and suspension to take the weight of the tracks it might be a cheaper option to considered the Taigen Metal tiger ? Here is a link to one which for the money seem quite reasonable.
