My DUKW build

Post by lliw180 »

This is my first project and my first post

I have alwase wanted to build a RC amphibious .................... but couldnt decide on what and somehow found myself reading about DUKWs as is QLD there is a tour you can go on threw the rain forist on a DUKW. So i desided on some rough idear of size and went and got the airfix 1/76 dukw kit as somthing to size it off. I desided to go 1/19 scale. I also wanted it to be relativly low cost and made from redaly avalbel parts.
For the dive lines i wanted it to be fully amphibious and 6x6 like a real one. So i got one of the tamiya 4x4 kits and mounted it in what would later become the bottom of the hull or chasie.

the bace is from an australian timber called tas oak witch is a red oak. as i am up sizing the wheels and when fully loaded it will be alot heavy than the stock 130 motor was ever ment to handel i up sized to a 330 used in moedl boats.

the side and inner devisers are mdf witch will get coated in epoxie before paint.

the front dive will sit the the gap hanging from a bolt with to sevo roads coming threw the fire wall ( for lack of better term)
the front drive is a tamiya gear box witch will be inclosed in a water proof box and will work like an articulated stering arm.

Part 2

This therd / build diary is gonna be a bit here and there its just a lot of it has allredy happened and thats what part 1 and 2 are posted on the same day.

Ok

Ribbing around the edges as you can see from the above pics the sids and back angled plate have had the ribbing done so it was time to do the front. i had to trace around the shape of the front od the dukw with a pen trial and error till i was resonbly happy given the fact i was covering the ribs on the cerved seface with putty and sanding in to final shape untill happy. I coved the under side of the nose with out door grade white gule and stuck on the 6 ribs

the o coved the who thing in putty i went for a 2 part bog like putty works well as it goes rock hard and you can sand it prty easy
