Internal ariel HL ... correct wire ?

Post by Wildboar44 »

Hi Tankers .......... one for the electro wiz kids . !

I can work out electronic problems like Hussain Bolt can run the 100m in flip flops ! ....... so my question is , after much deliberation
I think i need to make an internal ariel for my HL Tiger 131 project , the mechanicals of building it im ok with , but what type of copper
wire do you use for the ariel itself , it is just stripped copper stranded wire or will it need to be solid ? .. eg diameter , length ect .. ?

I think 190mm transmitter board to ariel post and 190mm ariel i think is correct from reading posts is the norm , but which type of wire ?

Thanks Guy's n Girls

Just basic multicore insulated wire, as close as you can manage to that which joins the HL receiver board to the base of the external aerial.

A lot of people, myself in the past included, took a length of that wire and wrapped around a 4" or so length of plastic tube within the tank to save space.

A final note - keep the antenna as far away from motors as possible - which includes turret rotation, elevation and airsoft (if fitted), the smoker, and of course the main drive motors - I found that the turret motors were far and away the most 'radio noisy' of them all. The battery can also blank out the aerial too, if you fit the aerial too low in the hull.
