Feifel Air Cleaner Question

Post by SovereignZuul »

I am adding chain to my Early Tiger's air cleaners but cannot find the right material in my research for exactly where to add the chain!

I am working on the later style air filters pictured here.

These earlier styles have three separate chain segments for three separate caps.

My question is, do I add the two lower segments of chain for those bottom caps on the later style filters to match the later style?
I've seen the side middle cap have chain on it on other Tiger models but can't find a good pic of the later styled ones with chain on the lower part.

Hey buddy,

I got one pic but I'll search around while my tank parts dry in the dehydrator...

Guess it only has the upper chain? Can't see any lower chain in that pic but it is a bit fuzzy.

Thanks Red Devils!

Hey Sov,

Been looking around, found a few pics but my take on it is there is No chains attached. Now I'm not to frosty on the early Tigers but maybe the lower portion had the no removable caps, they may have been fixed to the cannister body. :S
Here are some off the pics that I found...

Image
Cannot see any chains, not even a shadow of it.

Image
Some dudes 1/6th scale tank and after reading his WiP, he was pretty much a rivetcounter (not like that is a bad thing)

Image
Bit of a close-up, you may see to scribe lines under the cannister but they were placement lines for his 15T Jack.

Sorry I couldn't help out more but maybe some the guru's of the early Tiger will jump in and set us straight.

Hey Sov,

Cancel my last, I found a picture that shows the chains hanging on the bottom of a late pattern cannister. It is in my Tiger 1 book from Vanguard. After work tomorrow I will search the division the tank belongs to and I should have some visual proof. Talk to you tomorrow...

O.K. Sov,

Mystery solved, they do have chains check out these two pics. The first clearly shows them (next to the O and above the jack) and the second, well kinda. I've also included the underside of an early pattern so that you could see the attachment ring and other details. Not sure how crazy you are getting with the details.

Hope this helps...

Derek,

Great man, thanks for the research! I had a hard time finding pics like that. I can see the loops on the Bovington Tiger one even if the caps are missing but its great to see that they did exist on the later style one too! Seems like a tight fit because of the tool box and jack mounted underneath those air cleaners! I have the chain mounted on the side already but didn't know if it needed it down below.

If it fits on the model I'll have to attach them too. I'm loving the detail work so far!

Thanks so much,
- Paul

No problem Paul,

I like doing the research, learning lots. Once you got your Kitty up and running, post some pics so that we can drool. Later dude and happy detailing...
