Hello,
I'm about to start on my Tamiya full option King Tiger.
I have a quandary though, and its holding me up: Camouflage. I'm looking for suitable camouflage to use, I want it to be relatively accurate, not to a specific tank but to a unit at least. I'm looking down the route of Abt.505 so I can use the supplied decals.
From what I can tell is, if I go with a scheme that predates the factory applied 'Ambush' scheme order, I can pretty much paint the tank using the combination of redbrown, green and dark yellow and I'm not restricted to a hard edge scheme, I only have to apply zimmerit. Is this correct? And that the only restriction might be that the tank should appear in line with that specific ABT's style of field applied camouflage?
I guess, how much modellers license can I get away with and still remain somewhat accurate?
I'll post some pictures when I start!

Re: Tamiya KT Build
I am not a camo pro on the Tiger II but I do believe before the factory painted Ambush Scheme the tanks were painted in the field with a yellow/green kind of color as a base, then green and red/brown were applied over that. I have seen tanks with both air painted and brush painted.
if you google the abt 505 I am sure you will find lots of pics showing the camo styles used.

I did find a few for 505 but they vary to quite some degree, other than some have 2 tone Dark yellow and red/brown but not exclusive to that.
AFAIK ambush wasn't painted in the field, it was factory only. The older redbrown, green and dark yellow with the yellow base coat (1943- August 1944) was field applied. Anything after that was factory standard only including ambush.

Maybe one of these schems will fit?

Re: Tamiya KT Build
I'll have to get a copy.
Turns out my DMD unit is broken, throttle channel doesn't get a signal so will have plenty more time for painting. I've just done the welding lines in milliput on the turret and hull. Just now need to decide if I can do the same with the zimmerite .
