Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
I am new to the forum and new to the rc tank hobby. I just recently purchased a 1/16th walker bulldog and would like to upgrade the transmitter and receiver. I have been researching all over the net about all the different options and ideas. The things that come up repeatedly are the dx6i with the br6000 receiver. I have also read about the different boards, clarke and elmods. I am looking for suggestions for the proper fit out for my tank. Can anyone suggest what transmitter and receiver I should be looking at and everything I would need to upgrade my tank? Thanks in advance!
Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
Generally any four channel radio will do. It is the choice of electronics in the tank which is the main question as there is so much choice.
If you look in the electronics section I did a brief write up of all the systems I'm aware of also added websites to help people look into each system. I would post a link but on my phone so near impossible to add a working link.

Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
the electronics you run will kind of dictate the radio, I suggest the spectrum as it is the most popular radio and every system is pretty well going to work with it.
look around at the boards available and then decide what radio
Clark TK 20
El-Mod
SGS
SLU
Tamiya
DBC
RX18 with an RC2HL & Mako system
IBU
I think I got them all
If I forgot a system chime in fellas

Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
I have been hearing mixed reviews on the Clark TK20 boards. What boards do most of you run? Also Which receiver do you guys like the most? I have been looking at the DX6i and the Turnigy 9x. I have a limited budget so I don't want to waste my money by having to buy things twice. I would rather do things right the first time.
Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
I have one tank using the HL RX18 with the RC2HL adaptor and hobby king 4 channel radio
A few others I'm using (sharing) the HL RX18 with DBC3 and planet T5 radio
Rest I have four TK20 boards (various sound versions) with the planet t5 and t7 radio.
I say those 3 options plus swapping the HL RX18 to the Taigen 2.4ghz are your cheapest options. I'm pretty certain all other options your looking well over £100 mark for the electronics then radio on top.
I know it is a mine field out there to new people so have a read here http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... 77&t=10520 visit the websites listed and see what fits your needs and budget, then ask peoples opions on which your looking at and you'll get good and bad feedback.

Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
Ian,
For the Taigen you have to use their radio, right ? You can't retrofit a generic 2.4Ghz radio to work with the Taigen, can you ? Swapping RX-18 with Taigen will only get you to 2.4Ghz but not to a generic radio. I would say stick with RX-18 with RC2HL would have been the cheapest option if you want to use your own radio.
I converted all my RX-18 to Taigen but in hindsight would have been better to just stick with RX-18 and go with RC2HL.

Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
I have decided to go with the Clark TK20 board. Am I limited to what controller I purchase or will any decent 6 channel will work with it?
Re: Transmitter, receiver, and upgrade suggestions
On the Clark website near the bottom it lists all proven to work radios, but I know a few people with Clark boards and I don’t think any have had issues with their radios. I use Planet T5 & T7 with mine and only have a slight issue with the T7 where the left stick needs to be just below centre for the right stick (drive) to work the tank. Not a major as use to it now.dedicated1 wrote:I have decided to go with the Clark TK20 board. Am I limited to what controller I purchase or will any decent 6 channel will work with it?
