Chunwai 1/8 Scale Challenger 2.

Post by Sydney »

Here is a bit of an update, a huge crate type thing arrived at my house on December 21st, so it did finally get here.
There was no damage whatsoever.Unpacking was an adventure!, the package was extremely heavy so it had to unpack carefully from one end and there was white styrofoam particles everwhere. The dog "helped"
me and he was covered in small particles of styrofoam and the family room looked like a snow storm had
hit the place, luckily "She who must be obeyed "was not in during the morning, because it took me that amount of time to get the beast unpacked and the place vacumed and cleaned up.
The tank came about 98% assembled with a base coat of dark matt green paint. There was a very
simple instruction booklet, and of course a Futaba 6EX-2.4 Ghz RX with manual and charger, the RX
Had a 9.6 rechargeable Ni-cad battery installed, the dual charger was no good as it was rated at 220
volt AC(had a near identical Venom charger that works just as well). There was a bag of spare parts that
included track pads, links and pins-lots of them!,and a small tool kit.
First impression of this monster was excellent,no plastic parts or cheap stuff,in fact the thing
is "Built like a tank",solid aluminium throughout. The barrell and anttena were seperately wrapped.
The electronics, RX, modules etc are first rate and the whole thing is very well engineered.
I made a jig/stand for the tank in my hobby room and managed to get the bottom half onto the
jig, and the turret and upper body onto another table, i had two 12volt 12amp batteries ready and fitted them in the hull.I gave it a test in all aspects, it is very loud (sound module), but does have a volume control, the smoke generator is top notch, and within one minute it was pumping out very
realistic smoke from the exhaust s on both sides, and my hobby room soon became a haze and smelt
like Johnsons baby oil(thats what the manual tells you to use),the resovoir takes 10cc at a time.
The operation of forward, reverse, skid turns etc works well. The turret has full 360 degree turns
in either direction, and the cannon elevation and depression works very well, as does the firing and
massive recoil of the main gun.
There is a lot to do in regards to repainting and detailing, but i really enjoy that.
I will post some pics as soon as i can.
Overall, this is a huge brute of a thing, I checked out the equivalent HP of the two electric motors,
and from what i can gather it is the equivalent of about nearly 8 HP,the final drive from the two motors is by four chains, and the proportional speed control works well.I am very satisfied with the tank.
Will keep up the posts as I progress.

Hi Sydney

On a windows computer open the photo in microsoft photo editor, then click "image" at the top and the drop down box has "resize" in the menu, click on that, change unit to pixels then clicking the % down arrow reduce them to less than 800 x 600 and you should be able to upload them.
Waiting to see them!

Here is picture of the guts, smoke generator, speed controls, sound module, Rx,voltage regulator,
fuse box and control panel, and 2x12volt 12 amp batteries.
The track tension is done outside on each front idler wheel with a bolt and locking nut type arrangement.
The four chain for drives can be adjusted with a hex nut.
The tracks have individual rubber track pads(Chunwai sent loads of track spares), these are fitted
by snapping them into a recess on each track link.

All these are accessible by two hatches that open when turrett and main body are fitted.
It was supplied with a really good charger and plug.
