Spotting a good retailer.... it's a minefield!

Post by Pak36 »

Currently shopping around for my first tank, and it's proving to be a real headache spotting the good sellers from the shysters.

So many drop shippers, so many sellers pushing out old stock and so many fuzzy descriptions that just don;t tell you what you want to know!

I have done a bit of research courtesy of a few forums/sites and know pretty much what I want to buy....but it's such a struggle to get retailers to cough up details.

I know I want smoke and sound
I know I want the RX18 proportional controller
I want BB firing
I don't want to pay extra for a fancy paintjob

But I have found sellers selling 'proportional' controls whic are actually 2 speed. Smoke and sound which are not proportional and the dreaded 'pro' upgrade that seems to mean different things to different sellers but with metal tracks thrown on.Even a seller which I was 100% sure was on the level when e-mailed has doesn't sound like the UK firm they said they were....

Is there an easy route through the minefield, or do I just take the plunge and go for it?

Yes is a minefield. Suppose you could post link to potential place of order here And see what feedback you get from people here.

Even if not bought from that seller may notice something off from the seller statement etc.

This is the one I was thinking of going for ...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heng-Long-Rad ... 4ab15927e3

It's as cheap as I have seen them, and it's without 'metal' gearboxes. I am thinking of slotting in these ones :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heng-Long-Tai ... 460a24d074

and then save up for the metal tracks, suspension and wheels :) oh...and the 2.4ghz radio...and...and....

edit:
If I get lured away from the PIII ... I'd go for a Panther...

I bought from hobby power on ebay for tank and parts and service is quick and realiable so should be ok. As if I remember correctly. Hobby power is the ebay Howe's models outlet.

And also used panzer command for tank and parts including those gearboxes for my kv1. Postage takes a day or two longer but again great service. If you contact the seller as Lewis sometimes has tanks available but doesn't list them.

Excellent :)

I'll give that a try too. Sounds like I am good to go with both sellers then. Always like to deal with company's that have a track record
