SU-152 question

Post by MichaelC »

I have a converted SU-152 (WSN T34/85 chassis and Junkenburg super structure) but I just realized that the Junkenburg superstructure is actually missing a small opening on the left front side, just above the driver's vision port. I then started looking at all pictures that I can find and have and it is always there. I have no idea how I missed this detail but my question now is, what is it for ? The gun sight is on the mantel and the opening is too big for that. Is it a pistol port ? I believe that SU-85/100 series has pistol port but they are pointy, no flat like this one.

If anyone has any info on this would be great. Trying to figure out if I should retro fit this on the superstructure.

The pic you have is an ISU-152 and the port has been sealed. It is the little circle above the driver's vision slot. I actually managed to find a picture in my obscure russian collection of an ISU-152 with the plug hanging out with a little chain, similar to the piston port in the Porsche KTs and the Elephants so I am pretty sure it is the same thing in the SU-152 since they share the basic superstructure.

I don't do WOT but I heard this baby is quite the monster.

My apology you are right of course. My SU-152 is based on the HL KV-1. I do have a SU-100 which is based on the WSN T34/85. My bad. Anyway, here is the pic:

I know I know the Dshk would never be on a SU-152 but I just have a soft spot with that gun and took the liberty of putting it on the SU-152 since it is available in 1/16.......

And here is the pic of the ISU-152 with the piston port that is missing in the Junkenburg SU-152 conversion.
