guys, is the reciever seperate on the rx18? i can get a spektrum6 channel 2.4 GHz tx with 3 recievers for £150, but i dont know if i can plumb it into the rx18 or if i'll need a new board as well. electronics aren't my strong point so any answers should be in thicko. . just thought this mist work out cheaper than buying multiple taigen sets, and i only need one tx. cheers

I'll do my best to answer, not sure I'm getting this 100% right but I'm sure someone will correct me
The stock receiver for the RX18 is separate but it's a 27mhz receiver or something (either way it's crap)
To use a 2.4GHz radio with the RX18 you'll need something like the RC2HL (http://rctanksaustralia.com/shop/index. ... cts_id=196 to read about it) which is an adapter board you connect to your RX18 (same slot as existing 27mhz receiver is plugged into)

You then connect the RC2HL to one of your spektrum receivers and you'll be good to go

cool, thought it would be just plag and play, but having to get another small bit isn't too bad.

I have that RC2HL adaptor and is great but make sure your radio will work with it first. From memory spectrums are fine but double check.

Also if using stock battery it will suffer from brown outs where the voltage drops just below receiver operating voltage for a split second. The tank then won't respond, you can buy bits to stop this or use a LiPo battery as that doesn't do it.

wonder if i might be cheaper going with the clark board and getting rid of the rx18 altogether? at the mo it's all a pricing exercise.

The RC2HL adaptor has the benefit that once set up very easy to swap between tanks simply unplug HL receiver and plug in the RC2HL and your ready to go.

The Clark board is a bit more involved needs little bit of rewiring and takes longer to swap between tanks. Although the Clark board does sound awesome.

Another option is the DBC3 it replaces the HL receiver again adds tamiya battle system eleminates super spin and track recoil. Ive just ordered one Monday so yet to receive and try out but has a good following of users.
