spraying with heavily thinned paint

guys, want to do a whitewashed finish on the tiger. going to use very overthinned paint and build it up in layers. thing is, do i just have the airbrush further fron the tank to stop runs, or should i raise the pressure to try and dry it a bit before it hits the model? been using the airbrush for years, but this will be my first time using overthinned paint, so any help would be cool.

cheers guys, was going to go with hairspray, but i minght have a go at easterns powder method. if it all goes pear shaped i can always just brush it off.

guys, been down to local, good model shop and he has no white wheatering powder and wont be getting any for a while, so the orional question applies, how do i spray really thinned paint?

The way I did my panther was by using a natural sponge and dabbed it on, gives you lots of control

hmmmmm looks like the mrs is going to lose a washing staple. lol might give that a go with the hairspray and a tons of weathering. just need to find the base cammo for a tank on the russian front, got a feeling it is just yellow and then field splodge.

Jeff,the reason I use alcohol when thinning any Tamiya Paint is the drying effect,it is fast,and so decreases the run issue. I have just painted the Torro King Tiger and it was difficult due to the ZIM,which is difficult to paint without pooling in the creases and running.

Yet with the alcohol even really thin whitewash,sprayed at a distance will almost air dry when it hits the tank,of course practice on a piece of card board,and have at it.

The sponge seems spot on as well,that Panther looks damn fine! Either way post some pictures and let us know how you make out.

after new year going to go to the early learning centre and get some powder paint and give that a go as my local hobby shop has closed without me knowing. nearest one is now nearly 30 mile away. looks like i'll be pacticing a lot on bits of plastic

Do you have a shop called "The Works" near bye they do discount books etc but also have a good art section selling acrylic and other paint in large tubes at a good price, I have got the main colours (Black White Red Blue Yellow and Green)and mix my own versions of the colours I need.
