German Cleaning rods size to scale

OK guys, been reworking my Tiger, and the cleaning rods have bothered me as to their small size? Then the larger end Rod on the rear hull, plus the actual cleaning head brush, and it's real size'

So my question is the diameter of the wooden shaft, brass end coupling sections and the correct length?

Anyone have this information? Or any suggestions?

Then the brackets they mount in being the same on the Tamiya and the Heng long in size, yet they just seem very much to small and out of scale so it would seem the correct shaft size of the cleaning rods would also effect this part.

Any ideas?
Test set or cleaning rods

From page 141 of the Hanes Manual on the Tiger it shows a couple tankers cleaning the Tiger with the wooden rod in their hand. Looking at the pic and scaling it too an average guys size I would think the diameter of the wooden rod is somewhat close to 2-1/4 to 2-1/2".
realisticly I would think that has got to be close because of the diameter of the gun itself. I would want the rod tight enough to clean but loose enough not to jam up.
As for length I couldn't find the exact but I shall look a bit longer for you.
Hope that helps.

Hey Blake,

Oddly enough I was having the same issue as you just a day or so ago. These are the ones I made.

Material List

Evergreen Styrene #212 .080" (2.0mm)
Brass Tubing 3/32" (2.38mm)
Fine Metal Screws 1/16" (1.59mm)

Using the Hanes book and numerous ref pics, I made a single, a double and a triple cleaning rod, I roughly determined the length of my single rod (awkward 8O ) to be approx 2 1/4" long. I gave each rod a light sanding with 80G sand paper to give it some grain texture. Then I cut a bunch of ends using the brass tubing at a 2mm length and slid them onto the ends. Next I prepared the screw ends using 3 small screws with the same thread and diameter. I counted up to the sixth thread and Dremelled off the top. Finally I bored out both ends and fixed the screw end onto the rod.

For the multi length rod, I just slid the brass tubing to a point of equal length in order to represent the seperate portions of the cleaning rods.

Hope this helps, got to go, Yankees Playing.
