I have nearly finished my Tamiya KV 1 and am fairly new to this game and didn’t know about Heng long tanks. I see that they are ready to run but a lot of you have modified and upgraded them. My first question is are they good to work on and how easy are they to take apart to do the upgrades? I see they are about quarter of the price of the tamiya models.
Also generally how accurate are they?
Thanks
Heng long

Re: Heng long
Hello mate,
they are a doddle to work on and very rewarding to upgrade, I often nick their interiors to make other rc tanks run better.
They have the odd inaccuracy but nothing to bad and again there are loads of mods to corrct them.

Re: Heng long
They are definitely not tamaya type models. But they do in most cases feature close to tamaya quality and are made of a plastic that is much more suitable for hard use then tamaya's styrene. Their scale is pretty much correct except for 2 models<the panther A is really a mess and frequently refered to as a Pantiger because it much oversized and except for the turret and top deck is really a Tiger 1. The m41 bulldog is a great runner but is much to wide and long>. I have corrected that on one and although lots of work resulted in a very good looking, running reliable tank. Make sure to get ones that heve the RX18 mfu. The top and bottom hull sections are held together with multible screws but on most of mine Ive found that 3 or 4 screws are enough. The stock sound effect is the same for all the tanks out of the box. The smoke effect is a bonus over tamaya but needs to be replaced by a unit like those offered be rc tank wars. I only have one Tamaya in my stable the old m4 which is now powered by all the heng long electronics. You can get a lot of HL for the cost of one full option Tamaya and replacemant parts if needed are a whole lot cheaper.
Re: Heng long
I own both.....for most of the hl tanks, its 6-8 screws to take them apart. Their battle systems are not compatable so if you want to fight a tamiya, plan on this upgrade. As for how accuret they are......depends on the tank, the tiger 1 and first panthers are a mess, the kv-1 is ok, same with the panther.....the newer the design, the closer the tank is to being right. One issue with the early tanks is if you want to remove the turrets , you need to cut some wires.
Heng long tanks are toys, they have no bearings in the wheels or suspensions, they have no track tensioners, their track recoil will distroy the gear boxes over time. Their stock gear boxes are toy grade and will die quickly in grass. I find most preople that say heng long tanks are close to tamiya tanks do not have a tamiya. If you decide to take the plundge, my advice is to order a set of 3:1 gearboxes with the tank, also only order the HL with smoke and sound, the cheeper ones with out smoke and sound have 2 speed throttels....and a very low grade controle unit.

Thanks for the replys, Im thinking of having ago at the HL panzer 111. I see that there are a lot of extras about for it to turn it into a nice tank. Im not to botherd about them being compatable as at the moment, just want another little project thatwill look good when done.
greengiant. The m41 bulldog sounds great, have you got a build thread for that?
