Those early tracks look great.

Cheers for the kind words fellas, I appreciate it! Feels good to be getting back into the swing of things again.

Part of winterising the printer involved replacing the PFA film in the vat with ACF, which also allows for much faster printing. A full build plate of 54 track links takes just over two and a half hours, so a full set of tracks only takes about eight hours to print!


Assembling them is the fun part. It took a bit over an hour to do the first one, I'll do the other during the week. I think they'll work great, the resin mix I'm using is very strong. The only issue I can see is that they'll wear faster than plastic tracks would if they were run on rough concrete, but they'll work just fine on grass, dirt or polished concrete. Here's the assembled track holding up an eight kilo kettlebell:


Just need to get the rest of the running gear printed so I can get them on the chassis!

Gee, Raminator, that's a lot or trouble just to hold up a weight. With all your printing mastery, do you print lenses for headlights of various sizes

It would not be my most convoluted, Rube-Goldbergesque solution to a problem! It's not difficult to draw and print different headlight lenses, it's all about having accurate dimensions and good references. If you can send me exactly what you need, I'd be happy to do them for you.

The second track went together much faster than the first, although my side-cutters are definitely worse for wear after doing all of the track pins. There's about five metres of 0.8 mm stainless spring steel between the two tracks. I'm hoping the feeling will return to the tips of my thumbs soon! Well worth the effort though, I think.


I got some prints of the rest of the running gear done too. I would eventually like to print proper early-pattern tyres for the roadwheels and idlers, but for now the roadwheels are using the Taigen tyres and the idlers are solid prints.


I'm still impressed with what I can get away with on this printer; I thought I was being silly when I got carried away and modelled the castle nuts for the sprocket, but even the split pins printed properly! They're too small to see without magnification, but I know they're there!


I think this about wraps up the development of this particular T-34 variant. I''ll create a new build thread as I continue working on it, and keep this thread for the design of all the different T-34 types.

Will you paint and weather it? It's superb!

An early T34 conversion isn't easy, but you are definitely making it happen. The early tracks really complete the look.

Yep, it'll get a separate build thread to go over the construction, electronics, painting and weathering. I've just been finalising some dimensions for all of the stowage and fenders this weekend, so I should be able to get on to the final assembly soon!
