Righto, now talk me/us through the [paint please Mr Merlin.
Base colour, top colour then the funky pattern.
I like it - a lot.
How did you get the pattern ?

Hi Herman,

Right here goes, base colour is Tamiya Surface Primer. I then sprayed a main colour of Tamiya AS-3 Gray Green. The camo was sprayed in Tamiya TS-3 Dark Yellow.
To achieve the camo style I used a scalpel to score a pattern in some A4 paper which I then used as a template to spray through this achieving the ambush pattern.

AS 3 eh ??..........well I never even looked for that colour :{
It looks in my screen shots to be almost a black-green which is quite dark, but yours is not as dark as that.
So there you go. Grey green.
I assume by the scalple cut template you needed a few of them as the paint would have made one soggy.
Great idea & very effective for this what-if build.
Innovative & well executed mate, Im going to hunt out a can of that grey green for sure.

Hi Herman,

To be honest I was a little apprehensive about the grey-green as the lid of the Tamiya spray can looked rather dark and the fact that it was a Tamiya Luftwaffe specific colour rather than a tank one.
However it turned out to be a very subtle green hued grey which really suits as a tank colour.

For the template I only used the one as I was spraying from a distance so the paper didn't actually get that wet.

Gotcha Luftwaffe. I will try a run on spare material with the paint job I have in mind using this as a base to see how it gels.
As my Zu Fuss Panther is one day going to be a night fighting machine the darker base should suit.
Good tip mate

I look forward to seeing how the Zu Fuss Panther turns out.

You should deffo get a good coverage using the grey-green.

I was thinking why it possibly had a lighter look to it and it hit me it's because I used a very light grey as the primer for my tank.

As mine should have being a very late november/december '45 production run. For practical reasons though, after doing a gray primer, the red oxide just takes paint better and is far easier to highlight flaws.
I can always revert to an olive/dark green mix once the test plate drys if things dont look right.
Appreciate the heads up on the green mate, I would have never looked at that otherwise
