I still have some metal rear mud guards to go on, but they look a bit crap compared to the Tamiya ones, which I keep knocking and breaking just by handling the model. I suppose I will be looking at Voyager PE mudguards and track covers next. Probably when I have finished weathering and varnishing it. A logical order of doing things was never my strong point.

Looks great. Love the wooden handled tools. Very realistic.

A small update, the next stage in it’s, and my development, and because of a spat on FB where I was told my work was rubbish, and I was taking out of my backside. Got to love keyboard warriors on FB. The original Tamiya recoil unit had failed.

I did not want to change from the Heng Long TK6 board due to cost, and I wanted to try re-working a Taigen recoil unit, as discussed on another thread on this site. A Taigen unit was ordered.

Because I have nothing to loose, heading wise word on this site, and because I am bloody minded, and don’t like to be called, when I am offering an alternative solution, the Taigen unit was stripped down, with the unwanted elevation unit taken out.

By cutting down the base of the, now redundant, Tamiya unit it all seamed to line up.

Now, if said protagonists had asked how it could be converted, I might have offered suggestions. I am now at the stage where I need to drill out the remains of the Tamiya unit and attach the Taigen unit. Then I need to gain my chassis back from under Santa Claus, and put practice into theory. I think it was John 1970, Jofure who helped originally with the wiring, and suggested that Taigen wiring was the same.

I just came across your thread by chance, having missed almost all posts this year. Getting a Tamiya Tiger 1, for £15, is a bit like going out with a metal detector, for the first time, and finding a few rare gold sovereigns. If I'd seen this sooner, I could have offered you some of the bits you'd need (MFUs etc) to get it working as a full Tamiya Tiger 1. In reasonable condition, the Tiger 1 can fetch in excess of £500 on eBay.uk., but it's also an excellent platform for a fun future tank.
Still, I'd have to agree with the earliest observations, that your other half has got an eye for a bargain. Other obvious hints of Tamiya-ness, apart from crisper detail, come in the form of the detachable upper hull deck; the detachable Turret roof, and the distinctive motors, and wiring. Just for starters. Anyway, I shall follow your progress from now.. and Christmas greetings to Argyle from Ross-Shire!.
