Hi Rob, I'm new on here, I've just read this thread start to finish & I'm in awe of your ability.
Anyone (including even me) can hit "print" but the real skill is the CAD work...I must admit I found you on Thingiverse quite a way back, the speaker box in your store slid together perfectly.
I feel your pain with the tracks, I've been printing a Tiger 1 for a while, there are 200+ links, alas I've not developed the skills to modify the links how I'd like so I'm having to file each one, think I prefer visiting the dentists..
Anyway, keep up the incredible work & fingers crossed you might just share the STL's for this project, if you did, I'd be all over it like a tramp on chips.
Cheers
Wayne
Well thanks for the compliments, as for the CAD side of things, it was trial and error right from day 1. There are no shortcuts to learning it, and it was a frustrating long slog in the early days...and still is now at times. The only thing I had in my favour with Openscad was that I wasn't fearful of having a go, thanks in part to the programming that I used to do at work. I knew what was possible, it was a matter of learning how to achieve it. Plenty of watching You Tube, reading the help file, playing around and experimenting.
I went through all of the wheels and made sure that they all rotated freely, and then dabbed superglue on the S/S bolts etc to ensure that they stay where they are, I ran the thing ragged around the house, twisting and turning, going over folded carpet etc, and the tracks stayed on. I seem to have used a pair of gearboxes that I picked up from who knows where, as even flat out it is running at a slow scale speeds, anyways, it was cheaper than buying low ratio gearboxes. The motors are black with blue endcaps, but I have no idea what they are from?? Slow revving though, that's for sure.
The mantlet is now attached to pivots and glued in, and I am now starting on the myriad of ammo crates that these have on the interior.
Once I know that it all works, and that I know which parts were good, I might put the STL's on Pinshape, it won't be free but they won't cost the earth either. I could have done the same with other builds, but I wasn't quite so disciplined during those builds and it will take a lot of time to identify which STL files will actually make up a complete model.

Tamiya Tiger 1, Taigen FlakPanzer IV,Torro M16 half-track, Tamiya Panther,WSN/Torro T34,Taigen M41 Bulldog,H/l/Taigen Sherman M4A3,H/L T90, Haya M3 Grant, Metal Origins 234/2 Puma, Nashorn by Alwyn. I was only going to have one tank - honest!
Just a quick note to say that if anyone wants to print one themselves I have uploaded the files to Pinshape. It's not free, but all you have to do is download the files and either print them yourself, or use Printhub to find someone who can print them for you. I can't undertake the printing myself, it would take too much of my time to do that.
Hi,
This build is very interesting. That's the kind of project I like. One more step towards convincing me that I will need to go into my own printing at one point.
FYI, I noticed that Vandramodel now makes a resin ZIS-3 gun in 1/16 that could help those who want to detail further the interior of the Su-76 fighting compartment, cost $80 but they usually provide a discount.
