Hard foam is good just use latex paint on it. cutting can be tricky but a serrated breadknife works well.
No roaches here. Might be if a rental property. Some of those I worked in had so many roaches that you would see a piece of paper seem to move on its own and when you tipped the paper over the whole underside would be roaches.
I saved food boxes that had an inner container that actually held the food.

Sounds like your on an Island in the pacific. Okinawa was like that with cockroaches showing up in even perfectly clean places. They were just part of the islands normal insect population.

Those monsters are everywhere here...if you just take a walk at night there are billions of them ...in the trees...on the sidewalks...luckily they like the outdoors more than the indoors...the upside is...they make great moving targets for airsoft practice :D

Even Okinawa wasn't that bad. Sounds almost like the mayfly infestations we sometimes get as part of spring breeding cycle further north of where I live now, where some years roads are shut down and houses are covered so heavily by them that you can't see the house just a house shaped moving mass of mayflies. Their sole purpose it seems is to hatch, find a mate who lays eggs for the next year, after which they all die. I lived there for a couple of years and the first year it really freaked me out.

We have gnats....they live and breed in the halekoa trees that grow just about everywhere here...they are small enough to sneak through screens...and hover around lights during the evening...more now because of the weather

Mosquitoes used to be a big annoyance here but the lack of rain and high heat has put an end to that this year. But since I guess the eggs can survive unfavorable conditions for a long time ( they make it through winters in Alaska ) we may have a super large crop of them next year if the spring is a little damper and warmer.

OH hate those too...it isn't too bad here...was when the neighbor had a fish pond but that was taken care of with some cement ....but I've been to places where they just swarm...where repellents don't seem to work...it was tough ...couldn't even make a fire to smoke them away...nasty little critters

When in the service I did cartoon picture of the mosquitoes that everyone said was quite accurate. If I can find it in my old army stuff Ill post it.
