I took the tamiya battery plug apart (the big plug, not dmd end) and tapped the power wires.I soldered another pair of wires to the pins then simply put the pins back into the Tam plug.billpe wrote:How did you power the smoker/lights?
I did not need to provide a on/off switch as the peco controls that, only being active when the radio gear is on.Power to both lights and smoker then come from the peco.
I hope this helps sir.
ALPHA,yes, dividers will be added and the mud flaps are yet to be painted.
I have a set of metal tracks on the way (purchased today) and so i guess i had better add the after market upgrade front housing support bearings although i have not ordered these yet.
Other mods i may do are an auto battery charge connector. This taps into battery power feed and is then placed in a hole drilled into the lower hull.when done it is waterproof.
Then a stand has to be made containing the charger and the second part of the charge connector.
To charge the tank you simply place the tank on the stand and it will charge.
The same system is or was used when i did rc Hydro racing and it was used to charge the radio batterys in the water tight radio box.
I am thinking of building the stand in a form of diorama that the tank sits in when not used making the stand both functional and good for display purposes.
Thank you all so much for you kind comments as i build this Tank.
The build would not be any good without your help and guidance, thank you all.

Money down the drain so far,,gggrrrrrrr
I payed for a set of heng long king tiger metal tracks to go on this tiger,i should not have done this and i am kicking myself for being a grade A idiot.
Lets start from the beginning
Ebay,,,i see a set of hl metal tracks with sprockets and idlers for the hl king tiger so...
I mailed the guy and asked if this lot would fit the Tamiya king tiger.
He said yep, tracks will fit but sprockets wont as the gearbox shafts are not the same BUT he said he had a set of tracks only for me if i wanted them.
So mug here bought the tracks.
Well they don't fit,not on my tank anyway.
For starters the sprocket holes in the tracks were to narrow so i filed them out so my Tamiya front sprocket now engages the track holes as it should,ok cool so far but,,,,
When i run the tank i find the tracks are clunking about and then i notice they are riding up on the guide pins around the rear idler wheel and i notice that the wheels are jumping up and down as well.
Turns out this problem is due to the track guide pins, you know, the pair of fin looking things in the middle of the track, well they are not in exactly the same place as those on the plastic Tamiya tracks meaning they do not line up with the running grooves in the wheels or the rear idler wheel.
Maybe i can adjust the wheel and idler spacing's to fix this ,i don't know at the moment because i got the hump and have taken them off the tank and slung them on the desk.
Are metal tacks even worth using on this tank?
For now i give up because i am peed off and i am going to shoot the dog with a bb

Re: Countdown to new build Tam Tiger.
Yeah... Tamiya's are prioritized ...so you have to get Tamiya tracks for your tank...hope the HLs didn't cost you much...I'm going to convert my Tamiya to metal tracks... My personal view is that yes they are worth it...though if you run indoors and have wood floors... you may not want to change them... I've found the metal tracks really dig inmdkboggle wrote:Money down the drain so far,,gggrrrrrrr

The way I plan to do mine is to switch to HL gearboxes... That way there is a larger selection of aftermarket tracks I can use...on the Tamiya I will probably go with Mato Tracks..as they look a tad better than the HL s....actually when it's done ... all the internals will be Heng Long
Good Luck...and Happy Tanking Boggle

Re: Countdown to new build Tam Tiger.
If you want metal tracks, Impact tracks fit on the Tamiya King Tiger without issue. I have a pair on mine. The only downside to nylon tracks is once you start running the tank around outside, they'll start to grind down. Cheap to replace though.

he didn't make the mistake

It's not so bad,he bites me back
and besides,i am not as bad as a blind guy i met in a model shop years ago.
He picked his guide dog up and started swinging it around his head by the tail.
The shop keeper said "hey, mate, what the hell do you think you are doing?"
And the guy said "Take it easy,i am just looking round"

Re: Countdown to new build Tam Tiger.
Billpe i agree,
I am going to try and alter this set of tracks today and if that don't work i was thinking of going down the Impact road.
I got these track because i was trying to be tight lol, serves my right i guess

Re: Countdown to new build Tam Tiger.
The Impacts aren't cheap but they're well worth it. The quality and casting is top notch. My Tiger tracks have a slight warp to one side on both sets where they need running in but the KT tracks are perfect. You can get them locally but I got both pairs direct from Mitosal.com. He uses Fedex airfreight so they're usually in front of you within 3 days despite travelling half way round the world.

Re: Countdown to new build Tam Tiger.
I second what Billpe says about Impact tracks. So far I have a set for the Tiger 1 and Stug III.
Yes they are a huge dent in the wallet - but they are beautifully made and they run superbly.
And their service is top-notch - fast and friendly.

Gotta admit...if you are going to tweek a Tamiya... IMPACT does make some really nice components....their gearboxes... are really something... but as stated...not cheap
