It has to be remembered that the Tiger 1 early did not have Zimmerit applied and by 1944 it was realised by the German High Command that the Allies were not using Magnetic mines although the British toward the end were using "Sticky Bombs" so there is plenty of scope to build a Tiger 1 free of the stuff (Thank Goodness),
I blame the interest in applying Zimmerit to our Armour to that well known Sadistic New Zealand/Australian Herman Bix >:< who has decided that if he went through hell applying it then the rest of us must do the same,
Shame on you and you a Moderator as well :lolno:

:{ I had no idea that my self-flagellation known as Zimmerit application was going to set up so many others to enjoy pain in tiny stripes !!
Hot screwdriver, Miliput, acrylic sealant, Atak, and Tamiya 2- part putty have all been used to sear the soul and test the patience.
I think the Germans gave up using it for the same reasons we hate doing it !!!!

Sorry Mr Jarndice, I still have a few more that need the punishment, you’ll have to look away :haha:

In addition to Zimmerit, Schürzen and plastic lawn furniture are also on the Bix "I must try that" list.

Originally I was going to leave the sheet metal covers on the Tiger I (with appropriate damage), so the muffler mounts and smoke tubes were installed. But after working without much of the factory sheet metal I thought it better to leave the covers off. So I reworked the mufflers to hide the hardware behind the armored guards. Only one mounting screw, an alignment pin and a smoke tube per muffler.

Remember, new to this zimmerit thing. Since the cut outs were pre-cut the hull is too smooth for damaged zim. Added some plastic dust (grinding, cutting and sanding clean ups) to thin model cement and allowed to dry. Then remove what doesn't look right. I intend to mask these areas after the red oxide primer.

Or just paint it with red oxide by hand afterwards?

Decant some into a jar and thin a little to paint by brush.
