Hi,

Here is a view of the kit as it stands. The end is in sight. The gun is temporarily in place as it will be installed for good only after painting.
I am currently detailing the interior.
I reworked the brass brackets to make them look better.
Next is the radio compartment. That is planning to be quite something.

Today, I am about half done with the interior.

First, I gathered all the German radio in 1/16 I could find. I am definitely not a German radio specialist. All references are not clear as to what kind of radio the Nashorn was equipped. I know it had a radio in the front compartment. However, there are few wartime pictures available to determine if only the "Command" version has a radio in the rear. Some reference says it is a Fu8, some a Fu.Spr.f, others a UKWe receiver and FuS 10 transmitter. In any cases, I did not find any available and I do not want to scratch build it. There are limits...

The radio provided with the kit is on the first row, right. It is much too big to fit in the place allocated. The one with the most potential is the on the front row center. From what I can determine, it is a TORN eB and was installed in half tracks and other vehicles. It also has the right shape but a bit too big. Anyway, it will have to do. I will also use the power supply to put below it.
The radio was trimmed and given a frame similar to the Aberdeen Nashorn.
Here is the radio installation. I also installed the rain cover and placeholder for an antenna. I will have to order one because I am out. Also seen are the MP40 holders and some kind of brackets that had to be scratch build and put on top of the ammo bins.
The brackets on top of the ammo bins. They were not really fun to build. I am not exactly sure of their full purpose but they definitely seem to be holding the bins to the armor plates. I can imagine these bins were heavy when loaded and needed to be reinforced at the top so that they to not fall.

Tomorrow, I will finish the rest of the interior, including the MG mounts and the front of the compartment.

Gee wizz, you have been busier than a fallout shelter salesman in Seoul !!
I can see how those ammo locker brackets would be needed, they would be heavy when loaded and once you get dynamic loads, could tear out if not really secure.

Today's modelling time was spent on the AA MG and Binocular mounts. It took a bit longer than anticipated because I decided to have some fun, like 4 hours just for these 3 modules. What I like about 1/16 scale compared to 1/35 is that my eyes can see more clearly, parts are bigger and I can do a better job if I take the time. It really makes me forget the office...

Below are the modules in question. Nashorns have a lot of differences between them and all my reference material show differences depending on which surviving vehicle and photos the authors used. My guess is that whatever small variation I do in placement of things, there was likely a Nashorn that looked exactly like it. I think some of the German engineering and manufacturing on some area of the Nashorn is quite basic and rough. That binocular mount could have been done lighter and better looking I think.
The small details are important to me.
I can find quite a few mistakes I did in the building of the model. The ammo bins are a few mm too high, my mistake of reusing Juckenburg parts for them and not checking and calculating their height accurately. But I am not going to redo them.
I gave movement to the binocular mount. I can't believe someone designed such an ugly mount just to hold a binocular. It could have been a crane of some sort.
