Here's some snippets from a recent thread on 'the other place' :-

I suggest you go to Darkiths website and follow his directions. Replace darkiths jumper settings with the dip switches and the instructions are the same. I wonder why that is?
ORIGINAL: Darkith
Very interesting indeed.  Naturally, I can't recommend using my instructions for any random battle system...why, the only way they could work would be if somebody illegally and immorally copied not just my design (e.g. schematic and PCB design), but also copied my software as well.

It's a shame that this sort of "confusion" exists...I'd like to clarify the situation with RCC, but I can't seem to establish meaningful communication.

It certainly sounds like RC-Command has copied Darkith's system to me.

Hi Guys Just to get something right here Has he also copyed El-Mod because he his using a sound card similar to them ?Cant understand where you guys are comming from For years weve been asking for a Tamiya compatable Battle system that works with Heng Long Electrics with good sounds and when we get one people start saying its a copy of this or that .Its what people have asked for ,Bill has worked out how to do it so how can it be copyed .The way the electronics work from Heng Long there are only a couple of ways to tap in and make use of there radio and curcuit boards they install,to have a battle you have set perammitters Or settings light midium heavy how many hits for each ect ,so if you put them into a battle unit and have size constrants as well all battle systems that add onto your tanks look similar and all have the same settings and all are a similar size ,as for the progam they will all be very similar because you have the settings or what you want it to do .1+8=9 2+7=9 they both have the same result but are different .Its like saying a Jaguar is a Mondeo Dam they are the same built in the same factory have the same engine gearbox suspension brakes .Try buying a Jaguar at a Ford dealers .

regards pete

Nobody is saying it is wrong to make something that looks similar but does the same job. Reverse engineering goes on all the time and is prefectly legal. What is illegal/immoral is taking somebody elses work and selling it as your own.

In this case it would appear that there is reasonable suspicion on David's part that the RCCommand unit is a direct copy - this can only be cleared up by Bill talking to David and proving that the code contained in his control module is not the same as the DBC. Similarly I'm sure El-Mod will be taking a long hard look at the sound card to see if it is a copy of their design, and also start a dialogue. We should leave it to them to discuss this, as I suspect very few of us here are qualified to comment on the topic.

Speculating here is neither appropreate nor productive. Nick, as this thread has been hi-jacked please start a new one if you have anything more to add to this topic - I am going to lock this one until the mud slinging stops and this matter is settled by the relevent parties.
