Good morning, Scalawag,
The anti - skid turned out great! Not too much, just enough to be seen at scale. ;o)
regards,
Painless

Re: Another Abrams
Now that's a good looking nonslip surface that will work well in desert colors. If you look at pics of the real surface it looks like it was applied with paint rollers, kind of uneven and not very thick except where the material they added to the liquid clumped up.
Excellent job.
I cant take credit for the pics I posted on were the nonslip is as I just stumbled on it in some other posting on a different website. Where he got it from wasn't mentioned so I can't credit the original to anyone in particular.

That texture stuff is really nice Scalawag...going to look even nicer when the paint goes on...you were going desert yellow correct?

Great work - nice texture!
I have used various cans of Mr.surfacer before with good results.
Wonder if the leopard needs texture/anti slip?

Re: Another Abrams
The lip on the hatch is a little off, it is thinner from the lift handle all the way to it's end by the hatch hinge. Not trying to be a bolt counter but you are really getting the details down.
The 1st pic is on a M1A1 without the loaders shields. The second is a M1A1 with the shields and the skate stop brackets.
Abrams models except for E units or those with the loaders gun shield have hatch lips that look like the one in the picture. The notch on the inside of the lip came into being when Abrams loaders shields where thought of to clear a skate stop bracket clamped to the skate ring and is ok. Even without the stop brackets it is on all the hatches pictures I've found even with the shields removed.

The HL Leo2 has anti slip molded on the surface already.

Most likely the GPS antenna was also found behind the CITV cover in early M1A2s.

This is an M1A2 with turret APU. The extended bustle rack means this was taken during OIF. The GPS antenna is not clear in this photo but you can see that the cover does look "busier." Since this was OIF, it is very likely that "busy looking" CITV cover is the GPS antenna.

Hi Paul,
I just did a Google Image of that pic, and I'm afraid I AM WRONG WRT the GPS.
Here's a link to the bigger photo:

There are also no cable covers behind the CITV so it looks like this particular M1A2 doesn't have the GPS. Further searching says this was taken in 2005 in Iraq.
Will still research on when the GPS was installed there.

Re: Another Abrams
I'm waiting for answers from guys who'd know where the GPS antenna was installed for M1A1s and early M1A2s. Some of them are former and current US Army tankers who crewed the M1, while some are armour enthusiasts who've done more research on the M1. So hoping one of them answers soon.
