It is never my intention to produce a totally accurate model of a tank - that is way beyond my meager skills. What I set out to do is to get a control system that makes the model behave somewhat like a tank and then to make it look less toy like. Although I greatly enjoy the builds my main interest is driving the model when finished (must be the child in me), so as long as it looks reasonably like the prototype i am happy with a model.

Here it is with a base coat of Tamiya Olive Drab; While the paint hardens off I am going to be doing a 360 degree rotation mod to the turret rotation gear and painting the wheels.

cuppa, you can still do a French Sherman colour is ok , carry on ,don't loose your head, this is going to be something of a treat when done ?

The lower hull and wheels have now been painted and i have sprayed the areas where the decals will added with tamiya clear gloss to hopefully avoid the problems i had with the decals on the Tiger. Must admit I had a fear of spraying clear gloss in case i cocked it up but the varnish went on ok.

Here be the Sherman with the French markings. Only just put them on and the transfers are still wet. Gosh i hate applying transfers..................... The hull is currently gloss but will be getting a coat of matt varnish after I have sprayed a coat of gloss over the transfers and left it a day or so to harden.

That is some crisp and beautiful work, cupoftea. It is interesting how the gloss darkens the shade of the tank's O.D. to near exactly that of the MATO Sherman. I am looking forward to seeing it with the Matt reapplied to see what that does to the shading of the paint.

must admit i was very surprised at how much the finish darkened when i applied the coat of Tamiya gloss. It will indeed be very interesting to see what the outcome is when I apply the final matt coat. Tomorrow i will be doing a subtle pin wash using a wash made from burnt umber and black oil paints. I don't plan to apply a wash to whole tank - just panel lines, bolts etc. I have tried to find out what the 'Fabert' on the side of the hull could mean and the only thing I can come up with is that it may be a reference to Abraham de Fabert marquis d'Esternay who was Marshall of France in the 17th century.
