Here are some pics of the recent progress, hope to spray the base coat Dark Yellow today.

The road wheels will be primer on the back, but on the front just the base coat and some weathering and camo. The primer builds up to much on the bolt heads and the wheels will show better detail and the paint will stick just fine as long as the wheels are clean and oil free.

Wiping down with alcohol and them blowing dry with the hair dryer ensures a clean surface. The primer needs 24 hours minimum to dry, even after that I will place the hull in a box, attach the hair dryer and get the hull very hot, this will make the primer soft again but after it sits for an hour and cools it is tough as nails, and the base coat will stick and flow smoothly around the hull details. Here are a few pics.

Well I'm a bit behind in my post so here are some pictures of the wheels and lower end parts. Please note the pictures are in reverse order,I first painted the wheels in Base color, then added the camo.cheers

Still learning the different aspects of my camera, thankfully Andy post has been very helpful. I have taken over 100 photos of this build and just recently learned from the post Andy has written why the tone changes and how to correct for the light source. Still much to do.

I am reposting this series, it details the start, then the primer, but the base coat is the critical point.Notice the light color of the XF-60 this is due to two things the ratio of Alcohol to paint, and the drying time. As the paint dries and the alcohol evaperates this fussy white look appears, but left to dry it will fade.

I also wanted to detail the shadowing,I used a method I have used on my Battleships many times.A simple #3 soft lead pencil. The hull details, hatches, bolt heads, seams were outlined using a pencil, then for added effect a white and black mixture of chalk pastels. Applied with a Q-tip,and some parts just using my finger. Be careful with the pastels as the dust will stick to you fingers,I wipe my hands frequently.

After this method Klear/base coat mix was sprayed to seal the effect. This also changed the tone of the base color. Remember it is much easier to darken a color than to turn it lighter once it is to dark. The Klear/base mixture will change the color tone darker.
