Hooben T55
Re: Hooben T55
Hi Dave,
Yes please, an informed opinion would be useful. Might also be worth putting through a decent speaker to see what the samples are really like.
Did the cheque arrive OK?
I've modified the front stiffener by drilling 2 x 1.6mm holes in each end, tapping 2mm and fitting 4 screws. Found the easiest way to do it was to sit down, hold the hull between my legs and use a wheelbrace. If you do it this way, take it easy and make sure nothing moves or slips or you could regret it!
Very little room there, so I couldn't use washers.
Got the lower hull and running gear in primer now. The grey goes on tomorrow.
Cheers
Peter

I think we all need more pictures guys.
This is something new to all of us and there is (for me anyway) a lot of interest because it's different.

Hi Andy,
You are quite right. My digital cam got dunked some time ago. I bought a 2nd hand replacement last week with this in mind but I still need a memory stick for it. I'm going to start on the turret on Mon or Tues next week (Sax has asked about it) and I'll see what I can do as there are so many people reading this.
If anybody out there has been playing with the turret, do please stick your head up and join in.
Cheers

I am trying to make a turret for my new project and would love to see how one goes together. I'm scratch building a LVTH6 from the Viet Nam era.

Re: Hooben T55
Hi guys,
I was thinking about it, but have decided not to since I am making this one so I can do battle on the IR battlefield up in Danville. I have added apples to my other two LVT's, but they are only moving targets since they don't have anything bigger than a .50 on them.
Sorry big panzer, don't mean to hijack your thread. I would love to see more of the build pictures. I can visualize most of what you are describing, but I'm old and slow and pictures help me a bunch.

Hi Herman,
Thanks for sticking your head up.
Probably most of us this side of the pond have seen photos of Danville. It looks a great battleground and there seem to be some fantastic models use it.

Re: Hooben T55
As far as the barrel support and recoil system Dietrich has a very smart modification to the Tamiya recoil that provides instant recoil and slower return of the barrel. We have both found on our Tigers and King Tigers that a brass tubing that is cut with a tubing cutter fits the barrels tightly but does not effect sliding motion.
Also found that a short section of barrel that moves the 30mm of recoil motion is smoother with the brass tubing but also a heat-shrink piece on the barrel section inside the Mantlet section on the Tiger.Heat shrink grips the barrel and allows a slight amount of lubricant on the heat shrink.
Not sure if this helps with the T55 but we tried many different barrel guides in the last 6-months of developing our pneumatic gun system. So just to share some information,it does work and the barrels have zero play in all directions of movement.
