Reckon you have the channels round the wrong way for forward/back and left/right.

Check that both motors go forwards when you pull the jumper with the rx plug removed. If they are ok, try switching the plugs on the receiver that are activated by the right stick.

Ok, now try swapping the left/right motor connections onto the Elmod board.

hi Rob,
tried all combinations of motor wiring, none give correct motor control. So it's back to original config.

left stick up gives fwd - correct
up left gives slow lft turn - correct
up rt gives slow rt turn - correct
down gives back - correct

BUT stick rt gives full left turn
and stick lft gives full rt turn

weird but I'll live with it

Nooooooo.....something is configured out of synch, it should work correctly.

There is a flaw in the Elmod setup instructions. It gives the impression that if you connect the motors to the board, pull the jumper, and both motors turn forwards, then all is well.

There is only a 50/50 chance that this is correct, as if the left and right motors are connected to the wrong motor terminals then both motors will still turn forwards.

However, when you connect the channel wires to the receiver the left and right signals will be feeding the wrong motors.

This initially gives the impression that the channels are wrong, but swapping the channels will not solve the problem. I had this discussion with Thomas a while back.

The way to get the system running correctly is to:

Detach the rx plug from the board.
Ensure all of the jumpers are in place.
Turn the power on.
Pull the 6th jumper.
Both motors should turn forwards.

If they don't then you need to swap the +/- on the motor that is running in reverse only.
If they do, then all it means is that the polarity on the motors is correct, but the motors could still be transposed
At this stage you have only tested that the polarity of the motors is correct.

Now connect the rx plug and switch on.

Test the left stick, as you have done. From what you say, everything is connected correctly, but there is only one way to find out, which you have done.

What you may now need to do is reverse the left stick left/right channel control on the transmitter. This has to be done on most transmitters as it is a 50/50 chance that the tx will match the electronics that it controls. I have had to do this on every tx I have used, it isn't an Elmod fault, it is just part of the configuration process. My Hobby Planet tx has a couple of the channels reversed to make the sticks work correctly.

It now looks as if this is all that you need to do, so give it a try and let me know what happens. It is completely solveable, it is just a process of elimination to get it right.

Stripped the whole lot out and started afresh. Only difference this time I left jumper 6 out ( I put it back in place after the tests first time) cos it's not clear about in or out.

But now everything works

I know what you mean about that jumper, I always put mine back in, but the instructions don't make it clear whether it should go back or not.

At least it is all working now, so onwards and upwards.
