Your idea about the Heng Long/Taigen panther might be your easiest way to make one. Not sure if that part is available seperate or if someone on the forum has one to sell?
Carl!
Thank you, Doc! The one I have has a lot more detail so if I cannot do anything else, I'll get one of these and nab the chain part off of it. ;o)

That's what I figured its a bit less detailed but it's cheap enough
Yesterday saw the mail bring some detail from Welsh Dragon. Glad those guys are still out there. As hobbyists, we need every good resource location that we can get. Last night saw the lower hull detail finished ( for the most part, barring a little touch up painting ). Pics:

Carl,
You have put your finger squarely on it. I'm fascinated by the representation of everything in scale, particularly tanks. Lots of guys like me or the Hobby wouldn't be so popular. *winks* It's painful or tiring at times but the fun in seeing my 'take' on something big suddenly becoming comprehensible by being at scale in the palm of my hand is really worth everything I do to see it happen. I imagine that the first guy or gal to make a wooden horse or bear, etc...waaaaay back in the day completely inspired the interest of others to be part of something cool and new! The first 'Toymaker', creating purely for fun? What a creative giant that person that must have been. So I do like my detail. Gives the eye something to rove over and be held by on every tank I build. ;o)

Painless
The last couple of days have seen me recouping and letting my finger heal up from a broken drill bit fubar and through and through hole. Tonight I took some time to paint and mount the excellent Schumo MG-34. Also, I took a non used piece from Tamiya and made a stand for the eventual tank commander. Turret is the current focus and I'm awaiting some 3D printed periscopes for the cupola before I get much more done. Pics:

Painted in interior elfenbein and black with a rare earth magnet to help keep the Commander in place.
A piece from Tamiya that never seems to get used...

Mated with the MG-34 in late War paint.
All back together and rotating, elevating, etc... in Desert Yellow.
Stick to the illustrations and you'll have a relatively clean kit build. I had to drill and tap to assemble through no fault of Schumo. Ham handed, etc...etc...
