So would this type, this "Pig Snout" refers to the early casting? Would the Battle of the Bulge be before the change over to the simple cast or after?

The general design was called that, most of the assault guns had them as well. I don't know the exact introduction date but the Tiger 2's at the Battle of the Bulge that 506 abt used were a mixture of older and newer vehicles. Tiger 2 wasn't as linear as tiger 1 due to supply problems so you see some with configurations which don't match the ordered standards. Hermans 510abt Tiger 2 is a good example of that. It's built with the wrong number of track link hooks for instance (the subject tank).
