Some progress, but not as much as I'd hoped for. Still waiting on the third-party decals I ordered.

Done between last update and now:

- Painted tools
- Painted the tyres on roadwheels black
- Drybrushed some darker color in some of the weld seem lines to add depth / definition (not really brave enough to try adding actual weld seems yet)
- Replaced towing cable 'studs' with grinded-down nails
- Replaced kit's thin, fragile, rubber-y/plastic-y tow cables with aftermarket metal ones
- Replaced kit's ugly 'wound up cable' (behind the wood jack block) with actual wound steel cable
- Finished moving the antenna to its historically correct spot and hooked it up internally to the receiver
- Removed the HL antenna mounting stud, filled up the hole
- Started doing the whole 'drybrushing metal on the edges' thing
- Did a simple, quick black wash on the superstructure roof and engine deck

Still to do:

- Decals
- Finish the drybrushing-the-edges thing
- Do a wash on the rest (gotta buy new wash)
- Some minor battledamage maybe?
- Minor weathering
- Do something with figures. Modify the stock HL commander figure for another pose, maybe add another figure?
- Replace HL gearboxes with steel ones, but that's not a priority

The rubber tyres are the killer to paint. You be sure to tell us all about the fun you had doing them !!!!
Was actually a lot less painful than I was afraid. Because of the industrial primer I used, the black paint for the tyres went on easy, covered in one go and stayed on. It was just a bit repetitive painting all the tyres, but not that bad.

Also, here's an interesting comparison:

Image

One length of Pz IV track,
One length of (Jagd)Panther track and
One length of KonigsTiger track.

Really shows the size difference. The Tiger II's tracks are more than twice as wide as the Pz IV's tracks.

Straight. :P It was 'gangsta style' out of the box, but a simple twist with a screwdriver for leverage fixed that.

I ordered this set:

It's 'officially' a set of decals for a Tiger II, but I'm not a rivetcounter and I liked the looks of those numbers, so I'm gonna use these.

The sides of the superstructure will have '3+14' on them and the unit insignia will probably go on the glacisplate and one of the rear stowage bins.
