Contemplating a Panzer IV build? Then...
Re: Contemplating a Panzer IV build? Then...
If you want to ship it to me and then I'll ship it to you would it save some money?

It's done now, Adam, but thanks for the thought. It probably would. What mystifies me is the when Mike shipped me some bits from Hawaii, there was no obvious penalty..

It seems to me that with Brexit looming ever larger, if anyone wants Tank and Tamiya Tank bits from Europe, or the States, now would be the best time to get them, as exchange rates are only likely to become less and less favourable in the coming months (and maybe years);.
So...get em..while they're hot, or, you may not be able to get 'em at all..

I just had a look at the AAF site for one Tamiya item costing $25. Only one delivery option available, $52.50 to England. I cancelled it.

I have the same problem ordering from Europe to the U.S.
I once needed two brass pinion gears from Asiatam, total cost of the two gears was about $3 USD, shipping was over $30 USD. Now I just wait until I can place a larger order so the shipping at least gets spread over several items. And when I did finally order the pinions, I ordered an extra set, just in case.

Gary I wonder if the dealer was charging you for the VAT (Value Added Tax) as well as the postage which of course should not be imposed on anyone resident in the USA.
Shaun.

I think I am about to upset someone

Re: Contemplating a Panzer IV build? Then...
Shaun, I always register at shops like Asiatam so they don't charge me VAT (but I still pay attention to make sure), unless the order total is under $20. That's just their policy to only adjust for VAT on orders over $20. Can't say I liked that, but I didn't squeak, I just waited til I ordered the Blitz and picked up four pinions then. Adding the four pinions did not raise the postage cost for the order so it was almost like getting free shipping on those. Or so I tell myself because we all need to sleep at night, eh? These are the little beasties right here

Oh yeah, back then the exchange rate wasn't as good for me, at about $1.40 to the euro.

I don't doubt you, Carl, but as much as I was tempted to cancel the deal, the urge to get the bits I needed overcame my common sense.c.rainford73 wrote:If you contact them they should be able to lower the shipping cost. They are very helpful

As I said earlier, this hobby is only going to get more expensive in the UK in the immediate future.
Since the Autumn, the price of a Tamiya Tiger 1 has gone up on a quick average from the £510 mark to around £640. This cost escalation is also appearing elsewhere in the supply of parts and courier/delivery charges. For now, it can only keep growing, and so I want to get the kits and bits I'd really like to have in my collection, fairly soon..before they become prohibitively expensive.
