Great work there. Really getting value from your kit. Love the job on the rear hatch to access the opening switch for the hull. It ISA bitch to get at. Well done.

Cheers Andy , praise indeed !
  • I did detetct a bit of 'chatter' barely noticable really - due to the length of the rollers , the difference in the arcs mean the the outside ends are trying to go faster than the inners  it causing them to twist and skid a little - true needle races of this type have a microscopic taper which eliminates the effect .
  • Solution ? s'easy = just make 'em shorter ;D
- six rollers is a bit of overkill anyway . I'm going to try a new type made from a dead biro with just three , shorter , larger diameter rollers , running on wire axles fixed into the floor of the turret instead . . .
  • Tonight . . . Pt . 5 !
  • Bloomin' eck , it's a another mod , this time . . .
Image
  • . . . Bin day ! ( or more accurately , due to council cuts , NO bin day )
Thats right peeps , i've lost it completely , thrown a wobbly and ditched the turret bin . This of course means there is nowhere to put the elevation motor .
  • Bum , should have thought of that .
. . . no , hold on , YES THERE IS . . . I'll put it INSIDE the turret instead .- like this .
  • Image
ImageImage
  • . . . Just chop some off / remove a circle from the side , saw off the cam , turn the cog around , glue some scrap plastic across the bottom to take some small screws and attach to the turret floor . ( the red arrow shows an area that needs cutting away to clear the little cog ) Then the boss engages into a slotted plate glued onto the BB unit . . . .
    • Image
    . . . All together now . . .
    • Image
    - Whilst i was posting this bit , i realised that i had corrected/shortened the front of the turret first , - it affects the geometry of the gun slightly , but all of the above steps still work , Oops . I'd better make that the next section in this meandering butchery - I mean carefully executed and scientifically applied exercise . . . . - Pt 6 ish coming up . . .
        * My little painting sesh this afternoon was nobbled , i've lost a part , only the front plate from the hull - the m.g. /driver bit ! The cat is my main suspect . . . .
        Stay lucky out there , B .

I love this approach, you sort out one problem, sit back and another hits you in the face like a wet haddock ....

Its all character building stuff - so I keep telling myself.

I think its great that you grabbed the Heng Long Tiger model by the scruff of the neck and have given it a bloody good shake up !!

Thank you for the detailed pictures and the entertaining posts

        Mind that razor saw !!

              . . . I dunno , some days it's just not worth gnawing through the restraints . . .

Perhaps this modification might be of interest,I am sorry for not suggesting this sooner. It is a Tamiya Tiger VI Ring Gear installed in the turret opening in a Henschel King Tiger lower hull. This allows turret 360 rotation and removal in any position. The rotation gearbox is in the turret. Saxondog

 That looks just the job , cheers Blake ! I'll bear that in mind for the future , very handy .
. . . Well , in case anybodies wondering what i've been up to lately , i've bin painting .
Not the subject of this build thread though . . . .
                    - Remember my spare Tiger ? - The poor neglected relic , gathering dust . Well , it came to a point in my endeavours to make a 'good' Tiger that i realised that all i needed to make another was a new top half . Sure enough , one turned up on Fleabay , nice 'n cheep to boot .
                    • Not that i really wanted another , but talking to a mate i mentioned it and asked if he was interested .
                      • " Okay , yeah . - But could you paint it fer me ? " He said , and I agreed .
                    Soooo , i've been busy . One Dunkelgelb tiger coming up . . .
                    • Phone call .
" About that Tiger , can you do it in three colour scheme instead ? . . . "
                      . . ."Sigh . Righty ho "
                        - thinks - Mmmnnn. .. Didn't say EXACTLY which three colours , did he @)
                            ;D Well , Here it is , the 'rattle can special ' - slide show clicky thing . . . . .

... and yes , I DID edit the first few shots .That'll teach him .
