That’s a late version HL exhaust smoke unit.
Proportional say v6 and V7 onwards

And the old versions are equipped with this pump, it just works constantly at one speed.....
This Chih-Pyh has already gotten on everyone's nerves....

Yes, a motor with a crank mechanism is an anomaly!
A fan is progress!

Im not understanding sorry .. asked for advice, bought what I thought would work, and it does ... Herman Bix says its a late model HL smoke generator so I assume an updated one and it sounds like a fan blowing when switched on .. ??
Pic attached of my completed (crude) layout and of what the smoke mix looks like with oil added, smokes well, darker I think and maybe more dense too but not black admittedly.

The old I guess termed reciprocating plunger type smokers are/were awful and those are what I believe Mr Pavel is referring to. So bad in fact I reckon some of us are scared off running smokers in our tanks because of them.
The newer H/L versions are a lot more reliable and pump out smoke like mad. If anything-too much smoke!
The ingredients of the oil used across them will always burn white, but perhaps railway hobbyists may have a solution for black that doesnt involved burning bits of rubber !!

Herman correctly expressed my confused thoughts!
Yes, to my ship colleague!
Remove these disgusting wire connectors!
Get rid of everything that can be replaced by soldering!
I only have a connector for batteries....
And especially these disgusting Tamiya plugs on the motors!!!

Herman and Pavel beat me to it: I think you have exactly the right smoke unit: a more up-to-date version of one made by (or very similar to) the most recent HengLong smoker provided with Ready To Run tanks. As Pavel has noted, a smoker with a fan, synchronized to the sound of the engine, is quite superior to the older smoke units.
My trains and my AFVs use the same smoke oil, but I have not tried to make the smoke darker in either, as I find the smoke units so readily damaged that it isn't worth the cost or hassle of replacement. Oh, yes, I like the smoke (especially in a steam engine) and use it intermittently, but only for short time (e.g. 2 minutes). However, when a smoke unit goes out in a Ready to Run AFV, I just remove it.
Pavel's "Chih-Pyh" fooled me! I actually did a "Google Advance Search."

Then the little light bulb came on

: I think it's "cheapie," referring to the older version of the smoker.

How do you pronounce the sound of a steam locomotive when it picks up speed?
We get sneeze-puff, sneeze-puff....

:):)
