This is an endless discussion.
About detail: how much detail do you see when it's 5 meters away? How much detail do you need? You can go endless on that.
Paint: Tamiya models are fairly easy to paint, I tried a repaint job on my HL Challenger now thats a challenge.
Electronics: the older MF and DMD are fairly simple to setup, runs with almost all radios, the newer ones (f.e. Centurion) are very complicated and the sound is just sh*t. The later HL are better than the early ones they do make progress just the sound and soundbox do need improvement.
Building: the Tamiya can be build by any modeller, beginner or advanced and during the proces you can change or add elements to behalf (ballbearings f.e.). With the HL, Taigen etc building is limited to some click on parts and the transfers (better stickers) are sturdy but thick.
Durability: my first Sherman from Tamiya is now 20+ years and still running fine. I have had to change the gearboxes only once and we do drive through different types of sand and dirt very often.
Power efficiency: to my personal experience, the Tamiya Sherman and Pershing (i run most of times) are running longer on a 4600nimh than the Centurion from Haya or the Challenger from HL.

When someone asks me what to do with tanks i always say this: start with a cheap HL. You like tanking go for a more expensive model from HL than Taigen or Mato or.... Eventually there is a fase where you like to build one thats Tamiya.

Many times its just a gut feeling, whether its Tamiya, HL, Taigen, Haya, Coolbank etc.

My 5cents on this topic.

Regards,
Jan

We can all agree that any RC tank can be made into a beautiful model (unless it's a Hooben) :haha:

Even a Hooben can be made into a good tank IMO. Just depends on how much of your sanity you want to retain after completing the project. :shifty:

I’m a member of the Hooben T-55 survivors club. Any others here?
Seriously though, with HL electronics, it’s one of my favourites.

That's me right here. I bought a partly-built first-release Hooben T-55 and had it completed with Clark TK22 electronics. However I never got on well with Clark's control setup, and after a few years languishing undriven I finally bit the bullet and put in Tamiya KV electronics. Its one of my favourite tanks, although I drive it sparingly knowing that parts are scarce for this one.

And I am a long-term builder of T-55, if you read my thread.
For me, modeling is a relaxation from difficult everyday life, so I do not sit every day at the assembly, unfortunately...

As is Haya, I certainly agree that Tongde is at least the equal of Heng Long when it comes to the Centurion which is as good as the Tiger 1 or PZ4 from Heng Long.
It really is good value for money.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

:we used to have a similar debate in the rc world about the 1/5th 2 stroke buggys Hpi brought the 5b out first then china cloned it with makes like rovan and king motors etc of course the hpi quality was better but more expensive etc the problem was most people added so many modded parts in the end the model they started with were completely changed lol :lolno:
