no the leds do not support 7 .2 V

Yes, I guessed that!

What I need to know is if the 5.3 mfu is supposed to output 7.2v to the leds or not. If it is then I'll have to fit resistors. No problem replacing the leds but what value resistors? Using an online calculator, and guessing at a 20mA draw for a 3v led, the resistor value comes out at 220 ohms. Does that sound about right?

Hello, no there is no resistance to add, everything is happening in the board, I think we have to check if there is a problem in the wiring :O

I'm pretty sure the wiring is correct now. Checking the voltages at the leds shows the pulsing of the MG led voltage when firing and the headlight leds voltage before powering up the tank. That must mean that they are wired correctly.

Can anyone with a 5.3 mfu check the voltages for me?

on the 8-pin plug you must have this:
green wire, common leds headlights and machine gun,
+ 3.3 volts
on the white wire (headlights) - 3.3 volts
on the orange wire (machine gun) - 3.3 also'hoping that will help?

Is that for the 5.3 system? If so then the one I'm working on is faulty as I get 7.2v

:D

Personally I have been riding for 10 years and whether it is Heng Long or Taigen, have never asked myself the question type 5.3 or other? for me the RX are identical, level of connections and voltages, since replaces HL in 27 Mhz by Taigen 2.4 ghz without problem, if you find 7.2 volts it is not normal? be careful to measure the places where the lesd are connected and not taking from a common + or -
elsewhere? which could possibly lead to errors

???
Pictures platinum possible? please because seems weird to me that if the rest works? not the leds? but it is possible, did you try to open the plate? to check the condition of the components and the IC for possible burn marks?

The leds have a common +ve this reads +7.2v with respect to both white and orange wires so the leds are getting 7.2v

I need to replace the 5.3 receiver anyway as the turret rotate function isn't working.

Can't find any new 5.3 receivers (silver label), 5.3S ones (gold label) seem to be available, will the 5.3 transmitter work with a 5.3S receiver?
