John I don't know where you are getting your red oxide from but the cheapest is probably "Simoniz" in a big rattle can for about £7/8 from any car accessory shop,
There is enough to cover three 1/16 Tanks.
I swap the spray head for one from a Tamiya or Humbrol Rattle can for a less coarse spray.
Shaun.

Well its been a while, I have done little to nothing with the Tanks for a while, The Sturmtiger is starting to take shape, outwardly identical but a bits happened under the skin, I am trying to get all of the tanks to a state of mechanical completion before any
body and paint takes place

Now sitting on a brand new chassis, I found loads of broken suspension arms, the only original parts are the sprockets/tracks/wheels
some of the body and the wooden crate it came in

It drives very well, very slow and plenty of torque from the igarashi 5 pole motors which needed a bit of work to get them in.

Looks like it's coming together nicely.

I picked up a Sturmtiger not too long ago from the Motion RC scratch and dent section. They said it has issues. I couldn't find any, but I probably won't tackle it for a little while yet. I also scratch built a Sturmtiger in 1/6th scale for tank paintball combat so I'm a fan of the odd duck.

Nice method on the elevation Mr Wigbearer.
Mine could do with a longer throw arm but it’s ok for a start.
