Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Good morning, Gentlemen,
It is Winter here in the high valleys of the Rockies ( regardless of what the Calendar says ) and I find I am colder and slower to get going and socked into a Project. Thank you for the kind words, they are really appreciated. I want to get Mike's Tiger completed and set aside to await his arrival next Spring to pick it up. That will be some happy times! ;o) Then I can dive into a build of my own ( in what spare time the Holidays leave me ) Having heard nothing from Axels in Germany, I went ahead and cut the offending Schumo 'S' mine mount apart and put it back together so it would fit. Works and doesn't look too bad. Now I can go on with the rest of the Deck. Speaker and enclosure are on their way courtesy of Maxx Mekker . ;o) Pic:

Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
After the dishes were done and as an incentive for Pie ( Keylime with whipped creme ) I sat down to work with the Tamiya Jack Block. The Aber piece is wood but is way oversized and would need a ton of filing and sanding. So, combo part time again. I sanded off the face of the Tamiya part where the ( admittedly excellent ) molding of the latch was at. There was no carry handle tho' so off it came. Some bending, tweezing and squinting through the Magnifier and the parts are ready for paint. More deck fun with tools tomorrow or Saturday. Pics:

Your work is inspiring and depressing at the same time. Fantastic work that inspires. Trying to match the skill......depressing.

Top-notch as always, Painless. You've more than earned your pie!
I also learned something today. I'd always assumed that the S-mine launchers on Tigers were smoke dischargers, I never made the mental connection that a panzer's S-mine was no different to a regular S-mine; a bouncing betty. I'm sure that'd discourage any attempts at hitting it with a sticky bomb or RPG-43. Crikey!

Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Evening, Gentlemen,
Thank you guys. I can't afford a swelled head, the magnifiers won't fit. ;o) *bows to all* Ecam, Herman, your work is in a class all by itself. Stuff that I aspire to. Tiggr, this will be a fairly fresh tank with all of it's bits and bobs, not long off the ship and barely off the dock. Raminator, the pie was delicious. ;o) Yep, the Wehrmacht soon went to a single rotating weapon on the roof of the turret that could be reloaded from inside the tank. Unlike those previous first efforts at infantry control. Tonight, after a busy day, I sat down and cleaned up and painted the tools. I'll try to get them on by the first of the week. I still need to build up some of the ABER brass for mounts for a couple of them. Pics:
P.S. You guys will be sick of me and Tamiya Tigers. I just ordered my Xmas last night, a full option Tamiya with desert Tiger sprues and metal add-ons. I plan on building myself one like Mike's. ;o)

Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Aussie, many thanks! ;o) This afternoon, I sat down to make mounts for some of the tools and do some more detail painting. I looked up and night had fallen but I am satisfied with the results of these Tamiya\ABER combo mounts. Mike shouldn't lose any tools when he runs the tank. Pics:

Re: Tamiya Early Tiger 1 Static to RC Build
Wow! Those Tetra decals really make the fire extinguisher -pop- to the eye! I know that the initial plan was to have something that could be detailed and still be a runner...but with all of the hard work you've put into it, I think I'm going to want to run it very gingerly and infrequently.
So, you now have the makings of one for yourself as well - great! Since you're planning on an early version as well, are you going to use the same paint scheme and number them sequentially; or are you planning on replicating one from a different theater of operations?
