Got the crate lid made & painted.
Used black styrene left over from the front plate on the Lion Of Babylon build.
Scored with a hobby blade to simulate 3 planks and short sections sliced thinner to go over the top as battens.
Ran the razor saw across the surface for some grain & glued the battens on.

I had seen a tip from a static builder Chris Wauchop on how to get an easy wood look.
He used Tamiya Desert Yellow XF-59 as a base, then used a wash of clear orange X-26 over top.
I did try that, but the clear orange looked like the amalgamated resin handles on the German wire cutters :problem:
It was most likely my lack of skill that got me what I deserved, but I didnt like it. Was too bright.
A quick clean with thinner, reapplication of the desert yellow, and a light go over with track wash Mig 1002.
Much more betterer.

The bit I dont get, is why the crate lid ??
Lack of Zimmerit creating a need for something else? in that position ?
There's spare track underneath, why the thin wooden planks ?

We will never know, thats a given.
But here it is in position.

Great job on that crate lid. Definitely looks wood to me. Might re-do some of my jack blocks using your technique

Cheers Mr Mech, it’s an easy trick and one that I also wish I’d know ages ago.
As Tamiya paint does not brush very well it adds to the texture!

Filter only over this, so as not to darken it.
A tan filter over the lot and a bit more on the lower schurzen.
Still to add a bit o mud round the running gear etc.
Looking less bright now but not darkened either

It's interesting to me, the workhorse the IV was, and the way it's typically ignored by modelers and gamers alike.

Just applied my rotbraun on my JP redo with the green going on tomorrow. I left a lot of yellow bands this time as I'm kind of sick of overly dark tri color panzers so the filter is a good suggestion rather than the usual dark wash. That PZIV just keeps getting better. Hopefully kicks off a bunch of PZIV builds here like with the Tigers over the winter
