Been assembling the KPV-44 from Live Resin. Not a simple task as no instructions and quite a lot of clean up to do.
The resin is a bit fragile too, especially getting bits off the supports.
Hell of a gun by all written accounts.
I've made the normally wheeled carriage be 'adapted' to sit in the rear of the Hilux as I assume it might have been in a real situation.
Simple cross beam on the tray floor, with the carriage welded to a couple of uprights, and the ground spades oxy-cut off & welded to some angle iron on the wheel arches.
Rather than a high & complex mount that could offer a 360 degree rotation arc and require a fair old lump of fabrication to stay put, I went with a butchered original mount that can be operated from the tray by a sitting crewman, behind a shield(that I am yet to make)which should enable a fairly safe environment from which to pour fire onto distant targets.
On a practical level, if the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure or was damaged in a fight, the gun and tray if not disabled could easily be transferred to another vehicle of the same make.
I used some sliced-off nut & bolt moldings that came off my late StuG to look like fasteners that secure the gun to the tray. Super glue will be the final binder that joins the gun & mount to the tray after both are painted. The resin is just too 'iffy' to handle during the reassembly process and the gun looks quite intricate to paint with all its nooks & crannies.
The size of the weapon is evident when compared in place to the same scaled vehicle body.
There is a flap which is the battery access that I need to keep clear of too, that also alters the options for rear artistic layout. Kind of dead space.
