Thank you for outlining your pigment application Louis, very nice to see how it's done.
Interesting that you don't use a fixer, do you get much pigment rubbing off when you handle the model? I think the fixer I've used previously has caused problems with the pigments soaking up colour from the base coat and coming out strangely, so I'm intrigued by the alternative.

Hi,
I use a fixer on lower hull and tracks where manipulations and movement occurs, but not on upper hull. So I am always very careful not to touch the upper hull and especially the finer details where I put pigment effects. I use Tamiya acrylics and had good results with this paint. I found a fixer or alcohol will almost totally remove the rust effects, but the dark steel resists better. As an example below, I apply rust pigments with a light brush on the head lamp and then will avoid touching it at all thereafter. Of course, it depends on the tank and what I do with it. I will not use my Nashorn the same way as my Leopard II.

Do you have experience with spraying on a mist of varnish with a low pressure from the airbrush? I tried that and while the excess was blown off, the subtle tone stayed.

A Tour de Force, Louis

It's hard to imagine how you might improve on this standard of detail and finish. Very few mere mortals could. No doubt, though, you'll find a way to surpass even this with the next model....
