PM on its way to you Pete
The kit on the RC Command website includes the emitter LED - enlarge the pic and you'll see it.
Just took a look at RC Command, I see the emiitter led, but is that the only extra part required then? From what I was reading on other forums I was under the impression that there was some nefarious circuitry within the Stug gun that couldn't be bought seperately. If all that is needed is the led then it's a lot of fuss about nothing, it would be easy to hook up an HL IR system in any tank with an RX18 board. The Tamiya compatibility would need to be solved by changing the led and sensors to match the Tam frequency, though as to how that is achieved is beyond my technical knowledge. That nice Mr Grompix might know??

I do wonder about scale speed on that Leopard...it's like a damned Ferrari, and the turret turns faster than my Tiger can clunk around it.

If memory serves, when David ripped apart the HL system on RCU (pause to wash my mouth out  ;) ) he discovered the following:

1) The HL emitter wavelength was considerably shorter and couldn't been seen by the TBU/DBU.
2) The HBU receiver band was just at the lower end of the Tamiya spectrum and could not be considered to detect hits from a Tamiya compatable system in a way that was reilable or repeatable.
3) The HL signal was different, so changing out the emitter wasn't going to help.
4) The IR receiver module in the HBU could be swaped out for one of the receivers he uses in the DBU, and he was considering offering modified HBU's with his kit.

I think that about covers it - maybe the Blitz could add more to this?

P.S. The Leo has a 1500Hp engine, the tiger's was only 650Hp - you're trying to compare a miniMetro with a Metro 6r4 ;)

Hi Guys here is a write up of the BSU
BSU Interop adapter (BSU IA) Guidance This circuit manufactures interoperability between different available IR-Battle systems. It is meant as addition and can without soldering work into existing systems be integrated. The system becomes simple to it between the respective IR sensors (Receivers and transmitters) and evaluation electronics switched. Fig. 1a:

Characteristics  friend enemy? interoperable to all usual IR-Battle systems on a scale 1/16, ?  Plug and Play able over plug connectors?recognition IR-FFI1 for two parties   easy installation for Heng Long of systems over normal?for Tamiya and elmod   no own current supply necessarily, 1? small dimensions (26mmx46mm), ?c-clamps  Infrared Friend or Foe identification 2

Important notes before the installation Please control that the tank is switched off or still better the accumulator is developed. With the opening of the tank your warranty claim possibly expires. Installation in Tamiya tanks With the installation in Tamiya tanks the adapter is inserted between the Battle unit (tower mushroom) and the multi-functional unit (MF). Two polige cables (red/white) IR-send diode and the five the polige cables of the Tamiya Battle unit to the BSU adapter are attached (fig. 2a). Two polige (red/knows) and five polige cables of the BSU of adapter become to those Multi-functional unit attached (fig. 2b). Since that is not polarity secured two polige cables, is to be paid attention on the basis the color of the cables to the correct connection. Picture

The installation is final thereby. By setting the bridge at the friend/enemy plug (fig. 1b) now the party of the vehicle can be selected. If the bridge is not set, it is e.g. a German vehicle, with closed bridge an allied vehicle. Instead of the enclosed bridge also an external switch can become attached, so that the party can be changed at any time also from the outside and in the enterprise. Installation in tanks with elmod electronics The installation in tanks with elmod electronics turns out due to the verpolungsicheren plugs as very simple. With the installation the adapter between the sensors of the tower mushroom and the CSI plate is inserted. Two polige cables IR-send diode and eight polige cables of the tower mushroom to the BSU adapter one attaches. Two polige and 8 polige cables of the BSU of adapter to the CSI one attaches. The installation is final thereby. By setting the bridge at the friend/enemy plug (fig. 1a) now the party of the vehicle can be selected. If the bridge is not set, it is a German vehicle, with closed bridge an allied vehicle. Instead of the enclosed bridge also an external switch can become attached, so that the party can be changed at any time also from the outside and in the enterprise. The adapter supports - admits so far - also the extended direction-controlled mode of the CSI. Through set for a bridge (fig. 1a) this mode one activates. 3

Installation in HL-tanks with HL Battle unit 1. Cable straps of the wiring harness to the tower mushroom loosen. The red line is +5V, the black mass and the blue line the data line. Fig. 3 2. To be stripped the three lines are the ends in the center to be separated and. Fig. 4 3. The lines the tower mushroom plug are attached to the lustre terminal with the designation S=Sensor. Connections of the lines at the lustre terminal · red on red · black on black · blue on brown Fig. 5 4. Now the lines of the connecting plug to the tub to the lustre terminal with that Designation B=Board attach. Connections of the lines at the lustre terminal · red on red · black on black · blue on brown If necessarily the sequence at the lustre terminal can is re-sorted, around that To facilitate connection of the short lines. See picture above. 5. Now still the red and the black line must be separated and stripped to the IR diode. Fig. 6 4 6. Now the two lines to the IR diode to the lustre terminal with the designation S=Sensor attach. Connections of the lines at the lustre terminal · red on red · knows black on Fig. 7 7. The two lines to the tub connecting plug to the lustre terminal with that Designation B=Board attach. Connections of the lines at the lustre terminal · red on red · knows black on Fig. 8 8. Electronics now well stow away and with e.g. hot adhesive fasten. If necessary a switch at the friend/enemy plug can attached become. So the party can changed without the tank will have to open. Fig. 9 Switch on After the installation and switching on of the tank on first an LED test takes place. The red and green LED flash in addition. The system is now operational. Receipt With the receipt of a shot of the own party the red LED the received signal shines is blocked and to tank-own electronics is not passed on. A signal from the opposing party or received without friend/enemy identification takes place one Minutes conversion and forwarding of the signal to tank electronics. The further evaluation takes over tank electronics (Tamiya/elmod/HL). Send With the firing delivery takes place the generation IR signal via the BSU adapter. The IRSignal of tank electronics serves thereby only for the release the firing delivery. With now sent IR signal is it possible all available systems to be fought, without they must possess an adapter. The friend/enemy identification is possible however only between vehicles with adapter as well as the mobile BSimUnit for PAK. Non-liability The installation in existing vehicles and their electronics happens on own danger. An adhesion for damage to foreign electronics is expressly excluded.

It would apear from the write up that it recevies all I.R shots they electronicly change them and fire at same freqency thats my understanding of how it works .\\the heng Long tanks act like they do normally with the little dance when killed .there are no changes to the setup of the tank I.E.no recoil block or mommentum no lose of mobility when hits are taken .These are standard with darkiths system .
