These pictures are from May,the normal bad Weather season, they are in series taken within minutes of each other. The first picture it is daylight, and a collision of Warm and cold air,and the lighter cloud being pulled upward and starting to form a Funnel, this one did move North East and about 3 miles away did some damage.
It is rare for them to touch down in the city but as the Radar above depicts the front came across the Mississippi river,a river a mile wide and more in places,as that cooler wet air is pulled into the warm storm front it can form the funnel, which does happen alot here. It went from Light to dark in Minutes,Last night was worse because we were already overcast with low hanging clouds of cool air,the charged super cells are warm air, with violent electrical currents, this is the power source for the clash, and the severe weather, the scale beside the Radar image above is a wind meter, the red and Purple super cells are 50=70 mph,yet can reach over 100hph winds, spinning this sucks the lower air up violently, and the funnel can be created.scary stuff.
